Although September in Maryland almost always brings weather comparable to that of the dog days of summer, the passing of Labor Day doesn't help but conjure up our thoughts of fall – kids heading back to school, nights getting relatively cooler and the brisk autumn waters calling the names of boaters across our region.
Labor Day is an impromptu beginning to fall boating for all of these reasons and more. The sailboater rejoices in more consistent winds, the angler tests his or her luck throughout the various autumn fishing seasons and the weekend wanderer takes advantage of less crowded harbors for serene scenic escapes.
As we take to the Chesapeake Bay's waters this autumn, may we remind all to wear personal floatation devices, have lights, watch the weather and always have a float plan. Haven Harbour Marina and Haven Harbour South slipholders are kindly reminded to file a float plan with our staff online at havenharbour.com/float before setting out on a weekend or overnight adventure.
F. Scott Fitzgerald said it best: "Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall." And indeed it does. Happy (and safe) fall boating everyone!
