LOPL Names Capital Construction Projects Manager

A Newly Created Position to Manage Multiple Library System Projects

SAVANNAH, GA, Nov 8, 2024 - Live Oak Public Libraries is delighted to announce that Micheal Summers has joined its regional leadership team as Capital Construction Projects Manager, a newly created position based at its Bull Street administrative offices.

Summers has decades of experience in capital project management, most notably, serving as Director of Physical Plant and Vice President of Operations for the University of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia. Summers currently serves as chairman of the board of Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro. He has also been an independent business owner and began his career as Director of Education Marketing for Coca Cola United Eastern region, before pivoting to construction.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness from South Carolina State University and a Master of Arts degree in Collaborative Educational Leadership from Fielding University. Summers serves on a number of community boards and is an inductee into the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame. SCSU recently named Summers among its "Stellar Alumni for 2025," in the category of Public Service.

"With so many critical capital projects underway and on the horizon at Live Oak Public Libraries, it is critical to bring a professional project manager on board to ensure that the funding the community is providing is spent responsibly," said Lola Shelton-Council, Executive Director of Live Oak Public Libraries. "Micheal's focus will be on end-to-end management of the timely completion of new library construction, including the replacement libraries for Oglethorpe Mall and Pooler, and large-scale renovations and repair. For example, Carnegie Library, which was scheduled for renovation, also now requires restoration as a result of water intrusion sustained in Tropical Storm Debby."

"We are thrilled to have Micheal at Live Oak Public Libraries, as the demand for new and renewed facilities continues to grow," Shelton-Council added.
