Lake Howell High School Celebrates 50th Anniversary at Homecoming Event


Lake Howell High hosted a very special evening to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Alumni of Lake Howell were joined by former LHHS educators and principals who came together to enjoy an evening of reminiscing about their high school experience while celebrating Homecoming. It was an evening filled with unforgettable memories, school spirit, and an exciting victory. Happy 50th Silverhawks!

Walker Elementary Students Think Science is Sensational


At Walker Elementary, teachers Mr. Greenberg and Ms. Grimm get students excited about the Science Question of the Week on the morning news program. 20 student scientists who researched and submitted the correct answers participated in a quarterly science experiment with "Dr. Science" and "Ms. Drizzle." As Dr. Science always says...Science is sensational!

Hamilton Elementary Gets a Lesson on Democracy


Kindergarten students from Hamilton Elementary School of Engineering and Technology participated in a lesson on democracy by voting for the kindest innovator. The polls closed, the votes were counted, and the celebration ensued. Way to go, Innovators! Kindness Matters.

Lyman High Hosts Special Guests for "Hidden No More" Women in STEM Tour


Lyman High School's Academy of Engineering hosted eight international women in STEM from the countries of Argentina, Mongolia, Philippines, Taiwan, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Sweden and Austria.


The women toured the Academy of Engineering and spoke with students in the program and exchanged ideas on encouraging women in STEM. The esteemed guests are experts in the fields of computer science, cybersecurity, energy, and technology, and were thoroughly impressed with the opportunities for SCPS students, and the variety of programs as well as our diverse representation in STEM.

Lyman High Student Elected as SkillsUSA Florida State President


Lyman High School Senior Brianne Bowman was elected as SkillsUSA Florida State President for the 2024-2025 school year.

 

She has been to our nation's capital to participate in the Washington Leadership Training Institute. While there, she went to Captial Hill to visit Congressman and Senator's Offices to advocate for Career and Technical Education.

 

Brianne has also recently been part of the leadership team and presented at the SkillsUSA Florida Leadership Training Institute. In the February she will travel to Tallahassee to visit Florida Senators and Representatives to advocate for Career and Technical Education.

 

She will assist with regional competitions and help lead the SkillsUSA Florida State Leadership and Skills Conference in Jacksonville. Finally, she will represent Florida at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. 

 

Brianne is a part of Lyman's Early Childhood as well as the Lyman Leadership Program. She currently works for a local daycare and hopes to go into that career field after graduation.

Lake Mary Elementary Teacher Honored for Saving a Life


ESE teacher, Ms. Gabriela Duran, was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Lake Mary Police Department.  Lake Mary Elementary's School Resource Officer Politis observed Ms. Duran calmly and effectively assisting a student during a medical emergency. Ms. Duran maintained full control of the situation, while administering the necessary medication and ensuring the student's safety. She was fully prepared with the student's medical information and readily shared it with paramedics upon their arrival. "I am honored to present Ms. Gabriela Duran with a Certificate of Appreciation for her exceptional dedication, quick thinking, and exemplary response during this emergency" said The Lake Mary Police Chief.


SCPS extends heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Duran for her unwavering dedication to our students. To all the incredible teachers across the county, your hard work and commitment does not go unnoticed.

Oviedo High Student Recognized as a Top 10 Finalist in National Challenge


Ankan Das, a student at Oviedo High School was recognized as a 2024 Top 10 Finalist in the 3M Young Scientists Challenge for his work as an 8th grade student at Sanford Middle School. He created a mobile robot whose overall motion is generated by simple motions without having to use motors or gears. As for his career aspirations, he wrote, “In 15 years, I hope to become an Aerospace Engineer. I have been interested in robotics since elementary school, and I was exposed to the fascinating field of Aerospace and Aeronautics through my middle school curriculum. I envision myself as an engineer leading the design of new technologies, such as advanced rovers for space explorations and robots that keep our planet safe and make our tasks easier. I want to have a positive impact on society through my work.


SCPS is proud of extraordinary young minds like Ankan who are stepping outside of the box and making a positive impact in the world around us. Congratulations Ankan!
