August 2023

It's that time again - summer is ending and a new school year begins. Many families in need and children in crisis, living in Fairfield County, return to school wearing ill-fitting, torn, and tired looking clothing, because they are unable to purchase new items. Children begin a new school year feeling ashamed and embarrassed, hindering their ability to succeed academically. Research has shown that a child's self-esteem is influenced by how they perceive themselves, clothing being a fundamental ingredient. This is where YOU come in!

Since opening our doors in 2016, Clothes To Kids of Fairfield County (CTKF) has been able to provide over 7,000 wardrobes to children eligible to shop in our boutique store. Our generous and compassionate donors have made all of CTKF's work possible. Children leave CTKF with confidence, excitement, and joy over their new wardrobes. Donate today and change a life this fall. Just $25 provides new socks and underwear for 1 child and $110 provides a full week's wardrobe for 1 child! No amount is too small.

Community Interest in our Mission Leads to

Development of CTKF's New Internship Program

CTKF is thrilled to have partnered with New Canaan High School (NCHS) this spring. Two students chose CTKF for their Senior Internship Program (SIP). NCHS designed SIP to provide graduating seniors with workplace experience and opportunity for career exploration during the last month of school. Instead of attending classes, the students volunteered with CTKF and helped in many areas, from sorting clothing donations and organizing the store to creating videos for our social media.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, CTKF was delighted to provide these students an inside look at our operations. CTKF believes that the students will benefit from their hard work and fresh perspective. CTKF wishes John and Cullen all the best as they head off to college, and looks forward to future partnerships with students from NCHS and other local high schools.

Thank You, Team CTKF!

A HUGE thank you to the incredible volunteers who rode for CTKF on May 7th in the TD 5 Boro Bike Tour! This year's team rocked it, collectively raising approximately $14,900 for children in need. We feel extremely lucky to have had each of you riding for CTKF's benefit.

It is our donors who enable CTKF to fulfill our mission of providing a weekly wardrobe to each eligible child that shops. CTKF's ability to provide clean, gently-used clothing and new items to eligible kids in Fairfield County is completely dependent on you! If you missed the opportunity to participate in this past May's event, it is not too late to help. Click the link below and donate now!

PARTNER WITH US

Evan, a Turn of River Middle School student, organized a sock drive at his school, and collected over 200 pairs of socks as a donation. CTKF is very grateful to Evan, and each student who donated. Your kindness is changing lives!

HOLD A DRIVE

CTKF loves to see happy clients leave our store after a shopping appointment. Clothing donated by all of you fills our racks! The CTKF store is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday by appointment, but we are eager to open additional days, in order to meet the demand of the increasing numbers of children registering for our services. Thank you donors for helping CTKF give shoppers access to wonderful, clean clothing and new items. You are giving hope to families in need.

REFER A FAMILY

Since 2017, CTKF has been helping Robert, a single dad, and his son shop for clothing. This is his son's final shopping appointment as he is off to college in Vermont in September. The family said their good-byes and expressed their appreciation for all that CTKF provided. The family will be missed by all.

CTKF wishes to thank Izet and his wife for donating all the repairs they completed on a shipment of damaged new sneakers and new bags. CTKF was able to distribute the repaired items to eligible kids.

Student Volunteers are Critical to CTKF

CTKF has been privileged to have the support of hard-working student volunteers. Over the past school year, CTKF has had several school groups help sort clothing drive donations; interns who worked in the shop, set up donation sites in their town, and developed videos to help others organize drives for donations. More recently, several students volunteered at CTKF during their summer vacation. Their contributions were critical to CTKF’s transition of merchandise from Spring/Summer to Fall/Winter clothing. They were all eager to participate and help make a difference.

Please encourage your kids to use the CTKF website and complete a volunteer application. CTKF hopes this fall will bring more volunteers. We are flexible and eager to work with students based on their schedules. Our organization welcomes diverse interests, especially those that are focused on making the services CTKF provides more visible and accessible. CTKF looks forward to hearing from you!
