Spring Into School Gardening

Washington Youth Garden

Saturday, March 25th

11am-12:30pm, ECP at 10am


Come join us at the Washington Youth Garden to learn how to plan your school garden, prep a bed and plant spring crops. Ask our expert gardeners your burning questions, and get supplies* to jump-start the spring growing season in your school garden! Light refreshments will be provided.


*Supplies for Title 1 schools or schools with limited capacity and budget for garden programming.

SPROUT Field Trips

Washington Youth Garden

Trips start week of April 12th and run through June 16th on Wednesdays and Fridays with AM and PM trip slots


Science Program Reaching OUT (SPROUT) field trips are the Washington Youth Garden’s field trip program that invites your class to our 1-acre demonstration garden, available to all schools.  New this year, self-guided visits to the WYG begin with a brief staff-led orientation. Prior to your visit, our staff can help you organize simple activities to guide your group’s experience. You also have access to our picnic area to organize your own snack or lunch.

2023 Summer Institute for Garden-based Teaching

US National Arboretum

July 11th-14th, 2023

Are you a returning District of Columbia teacher, staff, or volunteer who works in a school with an existing school garden program and is interested in developing your garden-based teaching skills? Know someone who is?


In this 4-day training participants will learn from experienced garden educators about outdoor group management techniques, foolproof activities, designing sustainable garden programs, and more! This training will be primarily in-person (indoor / outdoor) with possibility for virtual sessions.
