February 17, 2023

Hi folks,

We had an abbreviated week with students, but we made sure to make the most of our time. Our 6th graders moved through different stations this morning as part of their Maker Day experience. And there was definitely some excitement in the 7th grade halls as many students eagerly awaited their downstate trip to Springfield. Hopefully the roads are clear and they arrive safely to our state's capital.

For families who would like to do a little shopping over the long weekend, we have received a 20% off coupon to Dick's Sporting Goods through our membership in IESA (our Illinois middle school athletic organization). If interested, use this Dick's Sporting Goods Coupon anytime Friday through Monday.

PTO Updates

  • Thanks to our PTO Exec Board for coordinating this week's Shookie's Cookies sale on Valentine's Day.

  • Yesterday our 6th graders participated in a Dance Assembly demonstration during X-Block as a way of previewing what students can expect for the upcoming Dance Assembly sessions. There are four sessions on Saturdays from 6-7:15pm beginning on February 25. Registration closes soon, so interested families should login to their PTO membership account at www.nbjhpto.com, go to "For Sale" and then "6th Grade Dance Assembly". Cost for the four sessions is $65. Gloves are optional and will be sold for $10 at the first session.

  • The HOH 5K race committee is looking for a liaison for each school building as well as organizations who are willing to serve as a sponsor for the May 6th event. If interested in either of these, please contact Cari Stoneburner at cari@bardesinteriors.com.

8th Grade Families

  • Remember that the Incoming Freshman Athletics/Activity Night is tonight at GBN starting at 6pm.
  • Next week we will be opening up our online payment page for families to pay for a one-time graduation fee as well as the late April Physics Day trip to Six Flags Great America. Payments and registration occur online, but families will still have the option to pay by cash or check.
  • The February 28 deadline is quickly approaching for submitting your child's baby picture for the school yearbook. Review the Yearbook Baby Pic Information for a step-by-step process on uploading and submitting a photo.

Math/Literacy Interventions

Next week we are starting our next round of math and literacy interventions during X-Block at each grade level. Students and their parents/guardians will be notified if their child will be receiving this additional support.

Enjoy the long weekend. Stay safe and warm!
