Learning Resources from BOP

for Employer Agreements

The 2025 Benefits Plan is designed to promote flexibility and choice for congregations and their pastoral leadership. We thank you for your partnership as we continue our outreach and support them through this generational change. I hope you’ve had a chance or will be able to participate in either an online or in-person event where I’ve led discussions about the new dues packages.

In August, congregations will start submitting their Employer Agreements to confirm the benefits they’ll offer ministers and staff in 2025. To help them make the decisions that best meet their benefits needs in 2025, I am available to answer their questions and help guide faithful decision-making.

We also encourage congregations and their ministers to explore these learning resources via the link below.

I am actively speaking with congregations and ministers to help guide faithful decision-making. If you would like information and guidance, please contact me. You may also call the Board at 800-PRESPLAN (800-773-7752) (TTY: 711) for assistance.

I look forward to serving you.

In peace,

Rev. Kevin Keaton | Church Consultant

Church Website Grants Available

Mission Presbytery churches are eligible to apply for a three year grant from a church website design company. Churches who apply will receive a web designer, content manager and much more for three year. Dr Bryan Stamper serves on the ACCDV (Administrative Commission for Church Development and Vitality). They are calling this grant "3 for 3." In this first phase three churches will be awarded all costs for three years. If successful, phase two funding will open up support for more churches. Instructions to apply are in the video.

Mission Presbytery has a new commission giving out up to $50,000 in grants. You'll need a local pastor to apply. Watch the video for details - then click here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1NssS...

All recipients of these grants will be obligated to employ the services of a church consultant that the ACCDV has approved for a two-day evaluation of the congregation. Further grant funds can be available based on the feedback of the consultant. Each grant will be a maximum of $50,000.00 and will receive evaluations and support throughout the process.

Six ways small churches can help us stay human during election season

This is a pretty great article about staying human during election season. And though it's kind of geared for small churches, there's plenty of wisdom here for any church.

- Sallie

Small churches may seem irrelevant during critical elections of international consequence. But these local congregations have much to teach us about staying human, says a Quaker pastor.

Sallie's Ponderings

Charlie remains the only pastor I’ve ever known whose parking place at the church was reserved right next to the barbeque smoker - for convenience, I’m sure. That’s Charlie in a nutshell. He pastored and influenced countless members, youth, candidates for ministry, and ministers including yours truly, but was always ready to kick back and make you a burger or a brisket. Thank you, Charlie, for sharing your bright light among us in Mission Presbytery.

In the News

It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Rev. Charles "Charlie" Schuler on August 18, 2024. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

His Celebration of Life will be on September 7 at 2p.m. at his beloved First Presbyterian Church in Rockport, TX. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you write about a time when Charlie helped you, inspired you, or made you laugh, and bring it to his celebration, reception, or mail it to them.

Deadline for Applications Extended:

SERVE Grants for Mission Projects

The Serve Committee is glad to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 Mission Presbytery SERVE Grants initiative! This is an incredible opportunity for congregations and partnering organizations to secure funding for mission projects that have the potential to make a lasting impact in our region and beyond.

Because we believe that Christ calls the church to minister to those who are poor, hungry, despairing, oppressed or suffering from injustice, and because we affirm that sharing in mission work with others is an appropriate witness to God’s grace and that the Spirit summons Christians to be involved in mission, not only with financial resources but also with love, mercy, compassion, and justice, these grant monies are aimed at equipping programs or projects worthy of the participation and support of our member congregations and their partners.
