Career Discovery Day Success

CECPā€™s Career Discovery Day

CECPā€™s Career Discovery Day took everything you knew and loved about a career fair and took it to the next level. Facilitated by CECPā€™s advising team and CECDCā€™s Director of Career Pathways, the Career Discovery Day was an innovative way for students to explore potential careers, vocational programs, and other CTE pathways after high school.

In addition to having a traditional career fair with over 35 industry professionals representing a wide range of vocations, CECP also offered informational sessions on post-graduation options students could sign up to attend. Each student attended three industry-related sessions of their choosing in smaller groups. The sessions were presented by local colleges and universities around Denver, a Gap Year specialist, and a military veteran. Having both the traditional career fair and these sessions allowed students to not only network with professionals and ask questions, but also challenged them to learn about opportunities they previously never knew about.

The studentsā€™ feedback and turnout were spectacularā€”students loved seeing the presentations and business cards different professionals provided, and they enjoyed learning about the variety of benefits each job had. Students loved how the Career Discovery Day was divided into smaller sessions followed by an interactive fair, as it helped them explore which specialized steps they needed to take during and after high school for career development. The industry experts also shared with CECP staff that they were impressed with the studentsā€™ eagerness, inquisitiveness, and the quality of their conversations with professionals.

CECPā€™s Career Discovery Day was a huge success, and the CECP community is already looking forward to doing it again next year!

Bon Voyage, CECP Students!
