PTA Founders’ Day

Founders’ Day, February 17, is when we celebrate the legacy and work of our founders —Alice McLellan Birney, Phoebe Apperson Hearst, and Selena Sloan Butler — to improve the lives of all children and families. Founders’ Day is a time to reflect and take pride in our achievements and renew our commitment to being:

• a powerful voice for all children;
• a relevant resource for parents; and
• a strong advocate for public education.

This year we are celebrating 126 years of working on behalf of children and families. Our history informs our work. But Today’s PTA is vibrant and active and includes a network of millions of families, students, teachers, and community members advocating for all children, youth, and families.

Our Scholastic Book Fair will be on Friday February 24th through Friday March 3rd. The Book Fair will be open to students during their scheduled library time, and will be open to both students and parents every day after school for an hour (2:30pm-3:30pm, except on Wednesday from 1:30pm-2:30pm). See below for all of the info on the Book Fair!

Raffle:

We will be having a book raffle this year. For every book purchased the students will earn 1 raffle ticket to enter into the drawing, the grand prize is a lunch date with Mr. Winkler.

PARENTS' NIGHT OUT

All Jefferson Parents are cordially invited to our Parents' Night Out. PNO is one of Jefferson's biggest events and fundraisers. We would love your support as proceeds from this fundraiser help fund all of our PTA Sponsored Programs.

SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS NEEDED

This year's Parents' Night Out will again feature a Silent Auction, featuring donations from local businesses and families. If you have anything that would make a great auction item or personal contacts with a local business owner, who would like to market to over 300 parents at our event, we truly need and appreciate your help in making this a successful silent auction. Money raised enable us to fund the plethora of programs and events throughout the school year.

On Tuesday, March 14, 2023 we will have the next PTA General Association Meeting. The meeting will begin at 8:00am in the Jefferson cafeteria.

During the meeting we will hold elections for the 2023-2024 PTA Board. All Jefferson PTA members are invited to participate and vote. (To be a PTA member you must have paid for yearly membership)

This is the proposed Slate of Officers for next year’s PTA Board. Additional nominations from the floor will be accepted during the meeting

RBEF CORNER

Join us for the 7th Annual RBEF Hoffman Murphy Lawn Sign Campaign. Participating is easy. Simply text "WELOVEKIDS" to 844-764-2656 to have a lawn sign placed in your yard. Hoffman Murphy will donate $25 to RBEF for every lawn sign placed. The signs will be put in participants' yards on February 27 and removed on March 7.

Black History Month – Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.

February 15^th - Parinirvana Day (Buddhist) - Parinirvana Day, or Nirvana Day is a Mahayana Buddhist holiday celebrated in East Asia. This day marks the death of the Buddha and is celebrated as Buddhists believe that having attained Enlightenment, Buddha achieved freedom from physical existence and its sufferings. Buddhists celebrate Parinirvana Day by meditating or by going to Buddhist temples or monasteries. As with other Buddhist festivals, celebrations vary throughout the world.

February 15^th- Susan B. Anthony Day – This day is a commemorative holiday to celebrate the birth of Susan B. Anthony and women's suffrage in the United States.

February 20^th - World Day of Social Justice - An international day recognizing the need to promote social justice, which includes efforts to tackle issues such as poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, unemployment, human rights, and social protections.

February 20^th – President’s Day – The third Monday in February, this federal holiday was originally established as a national holiday in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington. It is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all US presidents, both past and present.
