Volume 6 Issue 4

Friday 4-H Nugget

Greetings 4-H Community,

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! What are you thankful for? Our staff is thankful for you, the 4-Her's and your families, our wonderful volunteers and the supportive community we live in. We hope you make time this holiday season to think about what you're thankful for!

In this issue of the 4-H Nugget, you will find a call-out for assistance with a 4-H project, info about our Career Development Event featuring Forestry and changes to building supervision sign-up. Feel free to reach out to the staff with any questions. Happy Thanksgiving!

All the best,

Volunteers Needed with 4-H Gift Wrapping Workshop

In partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Goshen, we’re excited to host a gift-wrapping workshop as part of our Adulting 101 series, where youth will learn to wrap presents of all shapes and sizes. We’d love to have a few additional volunteers with wrapping expertise and patience to help guide the activity.

We’re also requesting small donations from your club. These could be club t-shirts or small items like a remote control car, model airplane, latch hook, or fishing pole. As a final activity, the kids will wrap these donated items as gifts, which they’ll keep as a surprise from “Santa” and 4-H.

The workshop is scheduled for (W) December 18, from 6-8 pm at the Boys and Girls Club, and we expect 15-20 middle and high school students to participate. If you’re interested in volunteering, please let Corey know by emailing sharp22@purdue.edu! This event will also be a great opportunity to promote our gift-wrapping fair projects.

Through recent meetings with the Boys & Girls Club team, we’ve learned that some of their high school members volunteer at the fair and assist with cleanup. Offering Adulting 101 workshops like this one is a wonderful way for us to give back.

Building Supervision Changes Launching Soon!

If 4-H Clubs would like to book times/days for your club to guard the exhibit building during the 2025 fair week, there will be a “soft launch” just for 4-H Club leaders from November 25-27.

This is available via phone call only. Hours will be assigned on a first come, first served basis, so please call in promptly if you would like the dates you have had historically.

There will be a public link available to our entire 4-H community in early December where individuals age 16 or older can volunteer to guard the building any time they choose!

We are asking each 4-H Club to cover at least 8 hours in the building. We will be sharing the sign up link and additional information in the next 4-H Nugget. Thanks!

Elkhart County 4-H Forest Walkers

It’s been an exciting Fall 2024 for our first ever Elkhart County 4-H Forestry CDE Team named the “Forest Walkers”!

Youth in grades 3-7 have been working together to learn more about identifying tree leaves, seeds, insects and diseases. They will be competing in an area contest next week at Oregon-Davis High School against FFA and 4-H teams from 9 counties.

If this is a program that interests you, and you are in grades 3-12, please reach out Sthele at sgreybar@purdue.edu.
