Dear CIM friends,

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our 20th Birthday party. We are honored to be a resource to the community, and a meeting place for people who share a love for traditional Irish music.

Twenty years ago, we couldn't have imagined the depth of collective knowledge, breadth of programming, and expertise that we have access to now every day at the CIM. Just last week, we co-hosted "Working With Traditional Music Archives", an inspiring conversation between musicians and archivists, including Danny Diamond, Brian Miller, and Klezmer musician, Christina Crowder. This month, we wrapped up a diversity, equity, and inclusion project with consultant, Sook Jin Ong, and we are working on long-term plans for sustaining our community of learners. Another highlight of the month was the MNáFiddlers Concert in the Scanlan Music Hall, featuring five of our fiddle instructors in one incredible group!

Our youth ensemble students are preparing new sets to perform at the annual Youth Ensemble Concert on Saturday, November 23rd at 3pm at the Celtic Junction Arts Center. The concert will be live and streaming online on CIM's YouTube page. $10 tickets are on sale now at the link below (youth 18 and under & performers are free).

Join us this evening at 6:30pm for the Samhain Céilí Dance at the Celtic Junction Arts Center. Live music will be provided by the "CIM Céilí Band" organized by fiddler extraordinaire Mary Vanorny featuring instructors Kate Wade, Adrienne O'Shea, Abbey Roemer, Sean Egan (and Mary herself) with talented musicians from our youth ensemble program! It'll be a wonderful night of music and dance, and we'd love to see you there.

Our Fall fund drive has kicked off with a letter (which you hopefully received), followed by Give to the Max Day on November 21st. Please join us for lunchtime tunes at noon in the Scanlan Music Hall that day. Let's keep up the momentum up for reaching our $45,000 goal for CIM's annual fund before December 31st!

SAVE THE DATE FOR ÉIGSE CIM, A GAELA EVENT

Supporting 20 years of handing down the tradition

FEBRUARY 22, 5:00 PM

Éigse [eg-shuh] is an Irish word used for festivals celebrating traditional Irish arts and culture. It is in this spirit that we gather to raise funds for The Center for Irish Music, Minnesota's only traditional Irish music school, dedicated to handing down the tradition.

This year’s Gaela event will include a cocktail reception, a stellar traditional Irish music concert by Center for Irish Music instructors, a small silent auction, and a live fund-a-need auction.

THANK YOU TO EILEEN DEGNAN & TEAM

We’d like to send a massive thanks to Eileen Degnan and her incredible team of volunteers for organizing the silent auction for several years, raising tens of thousands of dollars in support of the Center for Irish Music’s mission since 2017.

NEW THIS YEAR!

The 2025 event will not include a large silent auction of art, jewelry, dishes, and books. Instead of soliciting used items, we are asking you, our generous community, to support CIM by:

  • Talking to your company about sponsoring Éigse

  • Donating a unique "experience" valued at $500 or more

  • Donating a high quality instrument or Celtic-art-themed item valued at $200 or more

To make an Eigse 2025 donation, or please contact Kelly Scanlan or Margaret Snyder.
