NEW TK PROJECT &
OPPORTUNITY FOR PARTICIPATION
2022 IMPACT REPORT

Last year was one of focus and positive growth for PON. We made progress toward our five strategic plan goals: advocacy, capacity building of parents, organizational capacity, raising our public profile, and building a diverse network. For additional details regarding the impact of our work, please see our 2022 Impact Report.

For 2023, we will continue building upon our efforts from last year and have identified new projects and priorities related to transitional kindergarten, ethnic studies and cross-cultural solidarity, and strengthening the network for future collective action.
New Project: Monitoring the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Expansion in School Districts

PON will monitor the continued rollout of transitional kindergarten to 4-year-olds in school districts and protect the rights of our youngest learners with the greatest needs so they have every opportunity to develop the fundamental skills to succeed in school.

This project will help ensure TK serves low-income, multilingual, and children of color in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner; parents will have a voice in their district's TK planning and implementation process; and teachers will receive the training needed to effectively serve students and integrate evidence-based family engagement practices in student learning.

In 2023, our aim is to cultivate a depth of understanding of the issues and concerns families with TK students experience. This information-gathering process will also serve to guide our coalition-building efforts as we advocate for policy solutions at the school district and state level.
If you have children ages 3 to 5, share your experience with us!
**If the dates and times do not fit your schedule, still sign up by calling Daisy. We may host additional focus groups at different times in the near future.
NEW PON TEAM MEMBER: BRYAN C. BECKER
"Empowering underserved families through education unlocks doors to endless opportunities. As PON’s Policy Director, I am committed to advocating for practices that engage and support families, and fostering a community where every parent or caregiver is an active partner in their child's education and success."
- Bryan C. Becker, PON Policy Director

As PON's new Policy Director, Bryan will drive the expansion of PON's important policy and advocacy initiatives. He is currently leading PON’s newest project aimed at keeping a close eye on the growth and implementation of transitional kindergarten. Before joining PON, Bryan honed his skills in local government relations and grassroots advocacy, working with non-profits, advocacy groups, and trade associations. His passion for making a difference extends beyond his public policy work. He is also a Teen Court mentor, youth baseball coach, and proud father of three boys. Through his various roles, Bryan recognizes the immense impact parental engagement and agency can have on the success of students, schools, and communities. We are excited to have Bryan lend his expertise and join PON as a critical team member. Welcome, Bryan!
