Fall Festival TONIGHT!

When is the Fall Festival? October 26th from 5-8 p.m.

Where is the Fall Festival? Tobesofkee Farm, Barnesville, GA.

What can I expect? You can expect hayrides, outdoor games, indoor games, cake walks, candy, and a chili cook-off. ALL ages are welcome and will find plenty to do.

Reminisce with Steve and Janet this Friday!

It’s almost time for another Friday Night Coffeehouse Concert! We’re hosting Janet Prothro and Steve Brown for an evening of nostalgic music on stage at 7:00 p.m. on October 28. Be there or be square! And bring a friend.

Baptism signifies the turning away from the old life of sin and separation from God  toward a new life in Jesus Christ. We are so excited to baptize four special individuals this weekend during the Celebration service: David Cordova, Donna Heavener, Lincoln Jester, and Nate Pruitt.

We will observe All Saints' Day on Sunday, November 6. If you have received a letter from the church in reference to this service, please be sure to respond to Lisa Metts as soon as possible.

Community: FBC Around Town

These FBC ladies enjoyed the morning at Futral Road Elementary for Pearls, Pumps, and Books on October 25th! While the pearls and pumps were optional we do appreciate you taking time out of your day to share your love of reading to these sweet kids. Thank you for loving our community and shining the light of Christ in all that you do.

Let Your Praises Ring!

Mark your calendars, because Santa is coming to town on December 2, and the Handbell Ensemble will be ringing in the season at the Historic City Hall in downtown Griffin! More details to come.

Missions

The Missions Council met on October 24 to give a report on the exciting work being done through FBC support to meet needs in the community, in the country, and abroad. Here is a summary of their reports.

  • Our mission partners in the Blue Ridge, in North Carolina, and in Africa are very grateful for the support we have been providing.
  • Spalding Samaritans is seeing more 1st time clients who need assistance with their utility bills.
  • Abundant Life Soup Kitchen has also seen an increase in clients, and they are grateful for the volunteers serving.
  • The Clothes Closet has been very busy. They clothed 29 people on Monday alone!
  • Five Loaves and Two Fish will be able to offer a $30 food voucher to 500 clients for Thanksgiving. They also have been grateful for the volunteer support.
  • The Benevolence Ministry will be able to offer 100 $25 food vouchers to the needy, along with a bag of canned goods. Southern Crescent Technical College is helping with the canned good donation.
  • Benevolence will also provide food vouchers to Christmas Toy Shop shoppers.
  • Women on Mission have donated $400 to Moore Elementary School to help them build shelving to receive a shoe donation from Nike that will benefit the students in most need.
  • The Levite Ministry reports 310 hours of service and 20 volunteers over the quarter (August through October).

The Caregiver's Clothes Closet is in dire need of Mens's coats sizes XL and above. (They also need men's shoes.)

Let's fill this empty shelf with Men's coats (especially XL and above)!

  • The Community Garden has a fall crop of broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, collards, and Brussel sprouts that should be ready to harvest in early December.
  • Grace 127 will be assembling 50 bags for foster families on November 12th.

Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Georgia Gets a New Moderator!

At the upcoming CBF Georgia General Assembly, our very own Steven Norris will be "installed" as the new moderator for CBFGA, effective January 2023. This position is the highest elected role in the organization, and we are excited to see Steven represent our church in it! If you are available November 6-7 to travel to FBC Augusta, we would love to have you join us in support of Steven! The cost for the gathering is $40 (to cover meals), and individuals would need to secure their own hotel room. This cost could be minimal if people room together. If you would be interested in attending this event, please register for it using the link below. Contact us for more information, or to let us know you are going and would like to know if anyone is available to room with you.

Service

If you have any questions, or if you would like to know how to get involved, please contact Seth Brown.

We are still looking for a few mentors! Please pray about your participation in this important program.

The mentor program through Griffin Spalding County Schools is looking for adults willing to serve as a mentor for a child at a minimum of 45 minutes a month during school hours (typically between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.). Mentoring takes many forms — reading a book, being read to, helping with school work, playing cards or board games, and even just being present and listening. To qualify to join our team of FBC Mentors, we need you to commit to there is a two hour training, a background check, and willingness to commit to meeting with your student for the rest of the school year.

FBC Attire

The church will be decorated for Advent and Christmas with fresh poinsettias and wreaths. If you would like to make a contribution in memory or in honor of someone to go toward this expense, please place your gift of $15.00 (per listing) and the name(s) of the person(s) you are remembering or honoring in the offering plate by Sunday, December 11. Gifts received provide wreaths, poinsettias, and other supplies. You may give online and enter the name of the honoree in the memo space.

Poinsettias

You know Advent is near when we start talking about poinsettias at FBC. This year, we will observe the traditional Hanging of the Green in the Celebration Service, where our Children's Choir will lead worship alongside the Sanctuary Choir and a special Trombone Ensemble.  In our Connexion Service, we will usher in the Advent season with a simple children's poinsettia processional as the congregation joins in worship.

Happy Work-a-Versary Alonzo!

A Getaway with Jonah

Over the past weekend, 32 ladies gathered at Callaway Gardens for the annual FBC Women’s Retreat. Participants had the opportunity to dig deeper into the book of Jonah — the focal text for this year’s retreat — through sessions led by Ellee Hilley, Liz Jester, Carol Bowen, Lori Harvey, Alexis Pruitt, and Bonnie Brown.

While much of the retreat is spent in the conference center at the Lodge and Spa, Sunday worship takes place at the Azalea Overlook inside Callaway Gardens.

Each year, the ladies at the retreat complete a service project, often to benefit women participating in the LifeSong Ministry. This year, ladies made special blankets.

This retreat gives women and opportunity to build new relationships with women from FBC, to deepen existing friendships, and to grow in their knowledge and understanding of scripture. For more information about the annual retreat, contact Jody Singletary or Ellee Hilley.

Moving from Regret to Conversion

by Steven Norris

Conversion is at the heart of the religious experience. The scriptures are full of stories of individuals who were headed in one direction (often a destructive, violent, or painful direction) when they have a life-changing experience with the Divine. As a result, a transformation occurs in the life of the individual and the trajectory of the person’s life goes in a radically different direction....”
