In June 2023 the Southeast Chapter of the ICAA, in collaboration with the North Carolina Chapter, hosted the ICAA Southeast Bunny Mellon Garden Symposium - An Exploration of Southeastern Landscapes: Mountains to Prairies. Designers, students, and enthusiasts gathered for a three-day conference in Lake Toxaway, North Carolina, enjoying tours and lectures by preeminent experts in garden and landscape design.

The Symposium's first lecture was presented by Robert Balentine, who introduced the guests to the Southern Highlands Reserve, the nonprofit organization he founded with his wife Betty Balentine. Located in western North Carolina at an elevation of 4,500 feet, the Southern Highlands Reserve is a woodland garden that protects a unique ecosystem of the Blue Ridge Mountains through the preservation, cultivation, and display of plants native to the region and by advocating for their value through education, restoration, and research. In his lecture, Robert offers a brief history of the region's flora and fauna, and then presents a behind-the-scenes look at how the Reserve is working to protect these species today.

Presented as part of the Bunny Mellon Curricula at the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art. The ICAA is very grateful to the Gerard B. Lambert Foundation for its generous support of this program, along with the Bunny Mellon Curricula

In "How to Hire a Designer," industry professionals share their personal experiences and secrets on how they might interview other professionals within their own field and further, and explain the process that they go through to recommend other professionals to their clients to be part of the larger team.

Co-presented in collaboration with the National Office and in collaboration with Boston Design Center and Boston Design Week, this panel discussion features interior designer Suzanne Kasler in Atlanta, architect Anne Fairfax of Fairfax & Sammons in New York and Palm Beach, landscape architect Janice Parker in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Andrew Cogar, president of Historical Concepts Architecture and Planning in Atlanta and New York City. ICAA New England Chapter president and architect David Andreozzi moderated the discussion, and led a Q&A session in which the panelists answered questions from the virtual audience.

For four weeks in June and July, the ICAA's headquarters in New York City welcomes twenty students and professionals from across the country for the Summer Studio in Classical Architecture. The Summer Studio incorporates lectures, field drawing, site visits, hand drafting, and watercolor rendering in an intensive program that instructs attendees in the principles and applications of classical architecture, and culminates in a design project for a new classical building.

In a video overview of this year’s Summer Studio, which took place from June 12th to July 8th, participants hailing from universities and firms across the country share their experiences, which brought them from the classroom to the offices of classical architectural firms, and of course to the neighborhoods, parks, and cultural institutions of New York City, as part of a fully immersive program that stands without parallel.

Kimberly Driessen-Greitzer, a participant in the ICAA's travel program "A Grand Tour of Sicily" in Spring of 2023, provides this remembrance of an unforgettable experience. The tour, arranged by Classical Excursions, brought travelers to architectural and design treasures of Sicily, including everything from exclusive receptions at private villas and palazzos to tours of magnificent ancient Greek temples, on a journey that extended from Palermo to Noto and all points in between.
