SENIOR FINANCIAL AID FORMS AND REPORTS

Watch for financial aid award letters from the colleges where seniors have been accepted listing the financial aid being offered.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Seniors interested in additional scholarship money should check out the Scholarship Resources page by clicking on the button posted below the Counseling Notes section for opportunities and information. Some deadlines are approaching and others have passed. Applications for the CCHS scholarships were due on February 24 and are presently being processed.

ACT AND SAT TEST DATES

Juniors planning on going to college are encouraged to take both the ACT and the SAT at least once by December of their senior year. These standardized tests are used by some colleges for admission decisions as well as scholarship consideration (even “test optional” schools often offer more merit scholarship money with a test score). The CLT (Classic Learning Test) is also accepted by some colleges.

  • The ACT can be taken April 15, June 10, or July 15. CCHS is a testing site on June 10. To register, click on the ACT Registration button posted below the Counseling Notes section.

  • The SAT can be taken (in addition to March 22 at Ivanrest CRC) or on March 11, May 6, and June 3. Registration information can be found by clicking on the SAT Registration button posted below the Counseling Notes section.

SAT FOR JUNIORS

The 11th grade class will take the SAT at Ivanrest CRC on Wednesday, March 22. The testing will take place during the school day from roughly 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. No registration is needed. Juniors will be dismissed for the day when testing has been completed.

Throughout March, juniors will be led through multiple forms of preparation, including a general strategy session, full length scored practice test, English and Math sessions led by teachers, and optional Focus Period offerings.

PSAT 10

PSAT 10 will take place on Tuesday, March 21 for all sophomores. This is a preliminary/practice test for the SAT. Students should get a good night of rest the night before, and bring a #2 pencil and calculator. Snacks and water are allowed. Students may not bring a phone or a backpack to testing, and will meet by the CCHS office at 7:45 a.m. before entrance to the CCHS gym for the test.

COURSE INFORMATION FOR 2023-24

ATTENTION PARENTS OF 10th & 11th GRADERS:

If your son or daughter is interested in attending or learning more about the KCTC (Kent Career Technical Center), he/she should contact Mr. Vander Wal as soon as possible. Students can tour the KCTC on a school day in March, and enrollment requests can be made through mid-March. Program spots can fill up quickly.

INDIVDUAL DUAL ENROLLMENT

If you are interested in exploring individual options for earning college credit while still in high school (as opposed to college credit offered here at CCHS) and would like more information, contact Mr. Vander Wal. Dual enrollment in high school can be free through the state of Michigan. Please note Dual Enrollment Registration needs to be completed this spring. You can find our CCHS Dual Enrollment Policies & Procedures document by clicking on the button posted below the Counseling Notes section.

TESTING OUT

In rare cases, a student may feel they are capable of testing out of a course offered at CCHS. Only students who feel they are proficient in a particular subject matter AND desire to accelerate in that subject area should attempt to test out of a course.

Students must earn an 80% on the assessment prepared by the department to test out of a given course. Students will not earn a letter grade for a test out in a course, so successful test outs do not affect a student’s GPA. Credit will be noted on the transcript, however. Students will sign up for the test-out in the CCHS office. Test-out signups will begin in April and the tests will take place early in May.
