CALL FOR VOUNTEERS - PTSA NOMINATING COMMITTEE
|
|
Welcome to the Second Semester! We can't believe how quickly time is flying by - so quickly that we are already thinking about next year's PTSA Board and are looking to put our NOMINATING COMMITTEE together.
The Nominating Committee serves a critical role by identifying and nominating individuals to serve on the 2023-2024 PTSA Executive Board and Board of Directors. The success of the PTSA in supporting our school and community relies on the passion, dedication, and diversity of our volunteers, and the Nominating Committee helps find the right people for the right job.
This is a role that will serve from March - June 2023, and participation in the Nominating Committee does not preclude you from being nominated for the 23-24 Board.
The open roles the Nominating Committee will seek to fill include:
- Co-President
- Co-Vice President of Communications
- Co-Treasurer (Accounts Receivable)
- Fundraising Chair
- Grants Committee Chair
If you are interested in being part of the Nominating Committee - or are interested in any of the Board roles listed above - please fill out the following form and we will be in touch!

We already emailed the receipts to the donors. And for people who donated through company match, Benevity provides you document confirming your donations and you can use that for tax purpose.
Thank you all for your support!

We try hard to include all the donors in our honor roll. We really appreciate your generosity. We apologize if we miss you names.
Thank you very much for your support!

Nominations Needed!
Each year our BHS PTSA recognizes two individuals for making outstanding efforts on behalf of our students. The Golden Acorn Award is presented to a school or community volunteer in recognition of their dedication and service to children and youth. The Outstanding Educator Award recognizes individuals who make significant contributions that enhance the education of children.
We need to hear from you! Do you know a school volunteer or teacher who has had a significant impact on your student during the past school year? If so, please send an email to mzhou12@yahoo.com to nominate this person for the Golden Acorn (outstanding volunteer) or Outstanding Educator (super teacher) Award. Include their name and what they’ve done to make an impact on your student or why you think they deserve to be recognized. The nomination period will be open until the end of April. Award winners will be recognized at our final General Membership meeting in early June.

Dear Bellevue Community,
Every year the students of Bellevue High School participate in Soup 4 Simpson in honor of BHS alumnus, Hunter Simpson. This event consists of a soup line where students donate their lunch money for the day and receive a cup of soup in return. All proceeds go directly to New Horizons Teen Homeless Shelter in Hunter’s honor. We will be hosting the event on Wednesday March 15, in addition to collecting donations from March 6 through March 17 on Touchbase.
In January 2005, in his senior year at Bellevue High, Hunter Simpson was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. He died on December 31 at 18 years old after enduring six months of intense radiation and chemotherapy. Although Hunter lived a short life, he packed it with more generosity than many twice his age. In his first and only semester of college, he spent as little money as possible on his meal plan by eating a cup of soup for lunch and dinner every day. At the end of the semester, he used the remaining $998 on his meal plan to purchase nonperishable food from the college cafeteria, which he donated to the teens at New Horizons homeless shelter in Seattle. In honor of Hunter, Bellevue High School has held Soup 4 Simpson for the last 16 years, giving the students at BHS the opportunity to make a little sacrifice to help those in need.
Hunter was an amazing person who led quietly, practiced what he preached, and always thought of others before himself. Soup 4 Simpson is our opportunity to celebrate his life by coming together as a community and giving to others less fortunate than ourselves. Last year, our event made $12,340. Overall, we have raised almost $140,000.00 for New Horizons since 2006. With your support, we hope to continue honoring Hunter this year. Soup 4 Simpson gives us the chance to follow his example and make the world a better place. Please consider donating between March 6 and March 17 to support this wonderful cause. https://wa-bellevue-lite.intouchreceipting.com/bellevuehighschoolasb
Thank you for honoring Hunter Simpson.

The 2022-23 Wolverine Guard Program is going strong! We already have received applications and hours for some students. Reminder application is due midnight on April 30th, 2023. No late application will be accepted! Please email us now if you are uncertain whether the program you volunteered with is an approved organization to avoid unqualified hours on the application.
For those who aren’t familiar with it, WG is a Bellevue High PTSA sponsored award that recognizes students who perform 100+ hours of community service in the 12-month period from May 1st to April 30th of each school year. Students who complete the WG requirements earn a certificate of recognition and who get WG two years during high school, get a special tassel at graduation.
A few ideas for volunteer service with links below:
As a reminder: The PTSA WG program is separate from the Bellevue School District’s volunteer hours requirement for graduation. However, hours that are earned to meet graduation requirements may also be used to meet WG requirements. You will need to download WG forms off of our website to both record your hours (and get supervisor’s signatures!) and the WG Application form. Thank you to those students who are supporting people through giving your time and energy. You do make a difference!

BOOSTER CLUB BOARD MEMBER RECRUITMENT!
|
|
Bellevue Wolverine Booster Club, the “umbrella boosters”, provides the legal nonprofit structure that enables TWENTY-TWO booster groups to fundraise and support our students in athletics and activities at Bellevue High taking care of the business behind the scenes.
We need nominations to fill three critical board positions to enable us to continue to function. ALL ARE WELCOME! These are GREAT volunteer positions for a freshman or sophomore parent looking to find a place to support the school. No experience is necessary, training will be provided. And you'll learn more about nonprofit governance as well. Nominations due March 14, 2023.
Vice President
Treasurer
Secretary
Baseball, Cheer, Choir, Cross-Country, Drill, Boys & Girls Golf, Gymnastics, Orchestra, Boys Soccer, Softball, Boys & Girls Swim & Dive, Boys & Girls Tennis, Theater, Track & Field, Volleyball, Boys & Girls Water Polo, Westling, and The Barque are all supported!!!
Without the ‘umbrella booster’ each of these groups would have to form a separate legal 501c3 and duplicate legal filings, insurance etc. These important positions take as little as a couple of hours a week or month and other than the four evening meetings each year, the timing of work is flexible. It’s a satisfying rolk knowing you’re helping so many great student activities thrive.
For more information and to submit nominations (including self nominations) contact club president Kate Simonen at umbrellabooster405@gmail.com, and/or review job descriptions in this linked DOCUMENT.

Hello Families,
Next Wednesday, March 15th, we will have a Math Information Night at Bellevue High from 6:30-8:00pm in the BHS Library.
Please join us to learn about the Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 (AGA) curriculum pilot from our secondary school’s math curriculum developer, review the curriculum resources, and provide feedback on what materials might be most effective in supporting our students. We appreciate your participation in this important discussion in order to hear your perspective on the development of the AGA curriculum for Bellevue School District.

BSF 2023 SPRING FOR SCHOOL
|
|
Dear BHS Families,
Hope all is well.
This is Qiuya(Rachel) Li, one of the trustees of the Bellevue Schools Foundation. My daughter is currently a senior at Bellevue High school. And I'm the BSF Ambassador here at BHS.
If you're new to the Bellevue community, Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF), established in 1979, is the 1st foundation dedicated to supporting public PreK-12 initiatives in Washington State. Our mission is to promote and fund the best possible learning opportunities for all students in Bellevue’s public schools. This year, we're distributing $800,000 to Bellevue students and educators for the programs. Spring for Schools (SFS) is an annual fundraising and showcase event. Historically, the event hosts over 1,000 business professionals, community leaders, and philanthropic donors who are committed to our student’s success and well-being. SFS offers an opportunity for the Bellevue community to witness a showcase of students, teachers, and their work in BSF programs, as well as celebrate their accomplishments. This year, SFS will be an evening cocktail hour event at the Meydenbauer Convention Center.
Date: April 1, 2023
Time: 5PM - 7PM
Address: Meydenbauer Convention Center
11100 NE 6th St, Bellevue, WA 98004
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about BFS or SFS.
And you're welcome to list my name 'Qiuya Rachel Li' as 'Star Captain', so you can be assigned to my table.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at the event.
Regards,
Qiuya(Rachel) Li
