"Fall back" safely with these travel tips

Gaining an hour of sleep when daylight saving time ends this Sunday may seem like a good thing, but it can make some people feel tired.


It will also get darker earlier in the evening. Keep these safety practices in mind as you travel:


  • Don't drive or bike if you feel drowsy
  • Increase following distance between vehicles
  • Stay alert for pedestrians, bicyclists and pedestrians when it gets dark
  • Use headlights and bicycle lights
  • See and be seen! Wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or biking

Planning grant to fund County's active transportation efforts

A $300,000 Transportation and Growth Management (TGM) planning grant was recently awarded to Washington County to update active transportation elements of the Transportation System Plan (TSP) and other policy documents and guidelines. 


The update will support the design of a safe, seamless transportation system that incorporates complete streets and off-street trails for users of all ages and abilities. Learn more

Stringtown Bridge completed ahead of schedule

Stringtown Road bridge complete

The Stringtown Road project team streamlined their schedule and worked closely with the contractor to complete work 27 days ahead of schedule!


The new bridge, between Sylvia Lane and Prickett Road, is concrete with an open-bottom box culvert. It replaces timber bridge that had been weight limited. Construction was funded by MSTIP 3e.

Open House

Meet the Main Street, Banks Road and Cedar Canyon Road Intersection Project contractor and project staff at an open house 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 at Banks Fire District #13, 13430 NW Main St. in the City of Banks.


Construction will start in November and continue through spring 2026.

Comment on Metro's Regional System Facilities Plan

Voice your thoughts on the future reuse, recycling and garbage system – comment on Metro’s Draft Regional System Facilities Plan by Wednesday, Nov. 6


The draft Regional System Facilities Plan outlines a set of long-term facility and program investments that aim to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, increase access to facilities and services and keep costs affordable.


Metro staff will review all public comments before finalizing the plan, which Metro Council is expected to consider for adoption in late 2024.  Take the survey
