Welcome to the 1st edition of your HRCP in Action Newsletter! This newsletter is sent on the 15th of each month to communicate news, updates, resources and event information.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM YOUR HRCP TEAMS

The Office of Immigrant & Refugee Affairs has played a vital role in all fronts of the recent migrant sheltering and support response in the City and County of Denver.


The Language Access

Program is offering training to the various federally and ARPA funded program managers on how to write a Language Access Plan.


Executive Order NO 150, the Citywide Language Access Program, was signed and is now in effect.

The Division of Disability Rights is meeting with various city agencies to discuss the permitting process to ensure that projects within the city undergo an ADA review in addition to a typical building code review. 


ADA Transition Plan – The team continues to work on identifying architectural barriers that lead to programmatic access concerns. 


Collaboration with CASR – A successful collaboration led to the new CASR rebate E-Bike program that includes E-Bikes that are accessible for people with various mobility disabilities. 

The Anti-Discrimination Office welcomed its new Director, Yvonne Yu, after the well-deserved retirement of Darius Smith.


Director Yvonne Yu and Darius Smith worked closely in the month of January for a smooth transition.


The African American Commission elected LaToya Petty and Fatima Thibou as its new co-chairs.

The Office of Sign Language Services is working with the Office of Human Resources to hire a new Sign Language Interpreter.


DOSL is collaborating with the Colorado Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf to create a standard practice across Colorado that require the use of a Court/Legal Status I or II Sign Language Interpreter.


DOSL is strategizing for an improved resource sharing system for receiving and filing interpreter requests.

The Office of Storytelling publicly launched the anticipated #IAmDenver Documentary, 'Reclaiming Denver's Chinatown,' during the celebrations of the New Lunar Year.


The Colorado Dragon Boat Film Festival selected the film as a featured presentation on March 10th.


DOST is collaborating with the Denver Landmark Preservation and Native American Communities for its 2nd historic context project honoring the history of Indigenous Peoples in Denver.

The Office of Financial Empowerment & Protection's Consumer Protection Division now has another tool to offer our residents, thanks to City Council who approved the Anti-Wage Theft Bill recently.


OFEP finished a study on defining a thriving wage in Denver and pathways to those career options. 


OFEP is partnering with various city agencies to integrate financial coaching to amplify program outcomes.  

The Office of Nonprofit Engagement will be receiving $1m in ARPA funding for nonprofit recovery grants. D-ONE is partnering with The Collaborative Impact Fund (CIFD) to distribute those funds. 


D-ONE is supporting the city’s efforts and HRCP’s role in accommodating our migrant friends arriving in Denver. The D-ONE Team is reaching out to the faith and nonprofit communities to secure community sheltering space as well as donations of personal items.


D-ONE is currently leading an effort on behalf of HRCP to help troubleshoot some of the unintended consequences that surfaced during the implementation of mini grants. new “mini grant” prog

The Office on Aging continues to lead all efforts to finalize the 2023 Age Matters Report.


Age Matters' Vision: Denver residents can continue to work as they age, both for meaning and purpose, as well as to contribute to their financial security; and there are sufficient, well-trained care providers.


The Commission on Aging held its meeting in January. Glenn West- Denver Police Department Commander in Chief met with all commissioners.

Yvonne Yu - Director,

Denver Anti-Discrimination Office


Yvonne Yu is an anti-discrimination advocate and mediator who has worked across the nonprofit, private and public sectors with a focus on community engagement, conflict management and public education.


Yvonne received her Master's in Public Administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, where she worked in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Office and partnered with Maine housing authorities to build best practices for equitable administration, and her B.A. in Anthropology from Brown University, where she served on a task force creating the University's first comprehensive Title IX policy addressing sexual harassment, assault and gender violence. She lived in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore before moving to Rhode Island, and constantly strives to look for new ways to expand accessibility and amplify diverse voices in service of the common good.

Tsigereda Feseha - Community Integration Coordinator, Denver Office of Immigrant & Refugee Affairs.


Tsigereda Feseha joined HRCP’s Office of Immigrant & Refugee Affairs in November of 2022. Soon after earning her BA in English Literature from the University of Northern Colorado, Tsigereda began working for the Global Refugee Center, now known as Immigrant & Refugee Center of Northern Colorado. After moving to Denver, she worked in higher education for eight years before coming upon the opportunity to, once again, work in the field she’s most passionate about; giving back to community through service.

Noah Blankenship - Sign Language Interpreter, Denver Office of Sign Language Services


Born and raised in the Boston area, Noah later resided in Rochester, NY where he earned his Bachelor's Degree and MBA. While at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), he worked as American Sign Language (ASL) Consultant, serving as one of the language coaches for the 100+ interpreters at RIT.


In 2021, he relocated to Colorado, where he now joined the HRCP family. DENVER – The Agency for Human Rights and Community Partnerships is pleased to announce that the anticipated #IAmDenver documentary “Reclaiming Denver’s Chinatown,” produced by the Denver Office of Storytelling, is now available to stream online along with four newly released feature stories. All five films are available with Chinese subtitles.

DENVER – The Denver Agency for Human Rights & Community Partnerships’ (HRCP) Division of Disability Rights is currently seeking proposals from nonprofit partners serving our Denver disability community that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. The funding comes as a portion of Denver’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation and includes $350,000 that could serve disability-oriented nonprofit organizations.
