Sixty Seconds with the Superintendent

Each week, we receive questions for the Superintendent from students in pre-K through 12th grade. In this video series, Ms. Beamon will answer these questions and help our families and the community we serve get to know the leader of our public schools.

Midway Elementary School of the Arts Hosts "So You Think You Can Dance" Contestant

Curtis “Trix” Pearson, a well-known master choreographer, hip hop dancer and former “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant visited Midway Elementary School of the Arts on February 2. Not only did Trix share his dance journey, he showed off a few of his moves. Students were able to learn from his techniques as they moved and grooved with Trix throughout the day. We love having schools with programs of emphasis to help students pursue their passion in their years with Seminole County Public Schools.

Dr. Marian Cummings Named Champion for Education

Following in the outstanding tradition of Seminole County Educators, UNCF (United Negro College Fund) awarded the 2023 Champion of Education Award to Dr. Marian Anderson-Cummings. This marks the second year in a row that a Seminole County Public Schools educator has received the award.

Dr. Marian Anderson-Cummings was selected for her overall body of work in education for over 25 years with special notation made for her work at developing students from an early age in VPK programs to her mentorship of other educators in ensuring that students have a strong foundation for when they take the next step of secondary education. UNCF recognizes that for our HBCU’s to flourish the work begins in the k-12 experience and Dr. Anderson-Cummings exemplifies that a mind is not to be wasted, it is to be nurtured for lifelong learning.

Milwee Middle School Receives Merit Award

To receive a national merit award, members of Magnet Schools of America (MSA) must submit a detailed application that is scored by a panel of educators. These schools are judged and scored on their demonstrated ability to raise student academic achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s magnet theme.

In 2022, Milwee Middle School was named one of the top 26 Magnet Schools of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet and theme-based schools. Of the 26 schools, it was one of the 10 schools considered for their highest award. In 2023, the school not only received the Merit School of Excellence Award, but again have been recognized as one of the top 24 Magnet Schools of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America in the nation.

Thank you to all our teachers, staff, parents, and students for all your hard work and dedication to Milwee. The vision and mission are seen throughout the school day. This honor shows the impact that you have made on the lives of our students.

CTE Month - Senior Highlights

At the most recent SCPS Board meeting, the ePathways Department was able to recognize 10 students as SCPS CTE Students of the Year. These students were nominated by their CTE teachers and represent a variety of program offerings available to SCPS students. From Interior Design to Television Production to Building Trades to Entrepreneurship to Digital Photography and much more, CTE courses help students explore a variety of paths.

In addition to our current seniors, ePathways has heard from SCPS CTE alumni on the impact these programs have made in their lives.

Here’s what a few of them had to share:

"The Academy of Health Careers changed my future goals and plans. I had always been interested in healthcare, but through the years in the Health Academy, I grew more and more interested. The Academy of Health Careers is a fantastic program and its new expansion into bio-med creates even more opportunities for students. I am so thankful that I was able to participate in it. All of the educators and administrators were fantastic and really cared about the growth of the students and the program."

"The culinary program gave me a look into the culinary world. I loved baking and it opened my eyes to how much you can do. I was taught so much and gained so much knowledge, I decided to make it my career. I currently own an at home bakery and bounce house business."

Community Collaboration Provides Hygiene Kits for Students

We are thankful for the Good for Girls Initiative that recently partnered with us to provide feminine hygiene products for girls in Seminole County Public Schools. The group provided feminine hygiene bags to our school board nurses that serve each middle and high school in our district.

Community support is a critically important element in the success of our school district. We appreciate all of the ways that Seminole County embraces the opportunity to support the students, staff and families we serve.

CTE programs through Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) provide students with rigorous, real-world learning opportunities. CTE programs empower students to identify and pursue a passion while also strengthening their collaboration, problem-solving, leadership, and entrepreneurship skills.

ePathways partners with schools to offer innovative programs that prepare students for careers that are high-wage, high-demand in Central Florida. Through Career and Technical Education (CTE) Academies and Career Themed Courses, students earn digital tools and industry certifications that prepare them for their careers now, at no cost to students.
