Harry Hazen

April 13, 1926 - July 26, 2024

Members and friends, we are saddened to share with you the difficult news that our brother, Harry Hazen, has died.We give thanks that Harry has received the eternal rest won in the victory of Jesus Christ.

Click here to read Harry's obituary.

A visitation will be held on the evening of Wednesday, July 31, at Burgess Funeral Home in Lancaster, SC. This will take place from 6-8pm.

We will celebrate Harry's life with a worship service this Thursday, August 1 at 11am. The service will be held at Heritage Hall at Westminster Towers.

Following the Celebration of Life, we will hold a brief internment ceremony at Grace Lutheran Church, and a reception for friends and family in the Fellowship Hall.

If you would like to send your condolences to Harry's son, Ken, he will be picking up mail at Harry's apartment: 1330 India Hook Rd., Apt. 302 Rock Hill, SC 29732.

We continue to pray for comfort for all those who mourn his death, especially Harry's son, Ken, his wife, Elaine, and Harry's grandchildren, Robert and Marylia as they face this loss. May they find hope and peace, trusting our Lord's victory over death. May we all be inspired by the enduring memory of Harry's kind, loving spirit.

Join us this Sunday, August 4th, between worship services for an

Outreach Partnership Presentation from Habitat for Humanity of York Co!

We will welcome Summersby Okey from Habitat, who will share more about what Habitat does in York Co, who they serve, and how we can be part of the ministry they do in our community! We'll be in the Fellowship Hall, and plan to start our presentation after the 8:30 service, as soon as everyone has refreshments and a seat.

We were so glad to welcome Katy Motsinger from our Outreach Partner Children's Attention Home this past Sunday! Katy spoke during worship and gave a presentation afterwards, sharing the ministry of CAH and how we can be involved in the vital work they do for teens and young adults in the foster system in our area!

Family Promise Hosting Week August 18-25

Family Promise is getting back on track! While the Family Center continues receiving much-needed repairs, Oakland Baptist has volunteered to be the temporary Family Center, allowing Family Promise to welcome clients back into the program!

Our next hosting week at Grace is August 18-25, and we hope you'll join us as we provide a safe and comfortable home for our neighbors during this time. We have opportunities for volunteering with setup, dinner, evening hosts, overnight hosts, and tear-down.

A message from Endowment's Chair:

The Endowment Committee would like to make the congregation aware of the Extended Ministry Endowment Fund.

We also wish to thank those who have contributed and those who have joined the 1923 Grace Society by notifying the committee of a planned legacy gift.

Additional contributions during our 100th Anniversary year led to an investment fund balance of over $200,000!! Growth of that fund means potential for even more future growth through return of investment.

More importantly, it allows for increased grant funds. At the beginning of this year, the available funds for grants to charitable causes in 2024 was over $6,400.

Current members of the committee are: Wally Seigler, Karen Warmoth, Ron Cartner, Don Horst, Doug Gay, and myself. Council rep is Justin Anderson. Pastor Rachel is ex officio member and advisor.

We welcome any questions about the Endowment.

In God's Peace,

Bob Goodbar, chair

Grateful for the quilted blessing

Amy Eich is the mother-in-law of Lynne Watkin's son. She shares her gratitude for the gift given by Grace and the Quilt Ministry. She received this beautiful quilt (see picture), which was a source of comfort as she is fighting cancer. These were her words:

"This is so beautiful!!!! I am speechless and so grateful! This was so loving, and I do feel the prayers wrapped around me."
