Faculty Feature:

Joseph Erba

This semester, undergraduate students in Joseph Erba's JMC 640 class are collaborating with the Kansas Region American Red Cross to develop a communication campaign aimed at increasing the number of blood donors on campus and in Lawrence.

The campaign will place a particular emphasis on increasing the number of African-American blood donors in an effort to fight sickle cell disease, which disproportionally affect African Americans. Students will work with the American Red Cross to promote a blood drive on campus the week of April 10, and will also propose a campaign for a blood drive for sickle cell disease in Lawrence for the Juneteenth holiday.

This project is supported in part by a Service Learning Instructional Mini-Grant.

Service Learning Instructional Mini-Grants

Mini-grants encourage and support faculty in engaging students with the broader community through service-learning, by integrating community-based experiences and learning as part of the course curriculum.

Faculty of all career tracks (full and part time) can apply for $500-$1,000 per course section.

Mini-Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
