A Review of 2022 - Seeing growth and success!

Program Highlights

2022 saw many initiatives being completed.

  • Former trainee Alex Powell purchased one of our renovated homes at 119 Wisconsin Ave., which is a full-circle success story!
  • We instituted a new trainee orientation program which will offer consistency in onboarding new trainees to expectations, safety practices and initial training in construction basics.
  • A driver's education program has been started to offer trainees the opportunity to obtain their driver's license, which is vital for them to be able to secure employment. FR has a beginning fund set aside to help with down payments on used vehicles for trainees who obtain employment.

Please consider donating your used car or funds to support these young men and women on their path to success!

Enhancing the blueprint for Multi-Housing

Board member Bob Apel has been diligently working on a blueprint for affordable multi-unit housing that will provide an acceptable footprint for streamlined permit approval and also enhance the speed and efficiency in both providing training and completing units for future residents. This will be a game changer when it comes to the opportunities for growth potential, efficiency, cost savings and the power to impact more lives, both in housing and training!

Meet the Team

As our needs have grown, so has our training staff. We are fortunate to find the special people who have construction knowledge, but also a heart for working with the unique individuals in the program who have struggled in their personal lives. They are truly making an impact, not only in their knowledge, but also as their example as young adults.

2022 recap of Trainee success and challenges:

  • 17 total trainees worked at least part of the year
  • 6 trainees participated in Columbus Works' "Jump Start" program and graduated after six sessions.
  • 3 graduated and moved to full-time work
  • 4 trainees are close to getting their driver's licenses and interviewing.
  • 4 trainees graduated from high-school
  • 2 trainees became fathers
  • 3 trainees were involved in drive by shootings or gun violence.
  • 2 trainees moved out of Carol Stewart Village (for homeless/coming from foster care) and into stable housing.

An immeasurable impact to the trainees is the opportunity to grow in their spiritual lives by being exposed to Christian values and to have hope for their futures, both in their careers and in their personal lives.
