Lenten Devotional

Hi Kelly—

Lenten Daily Devotional—

by Pat Mason

“But he was pierced for our transgressions,

he was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,

and by his wounds we are healed.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,

each of us has turned to his own way;

and the Lord has laid on him

the iniquity of us all.”

—Isaiah 53:5-6

Isaiah 53 has been called the gospel in the Old Testament. Written hundreds of years before Jesus came into the world, it explains exactly what He would accomplish in his life, death, and resurrection!

When we are going through difficulties in life, and life is hard, what a comfort to know that God has provided through Jesus the solution to our greatest problem- death. No matter what other problems we face, the one thing we can’t fix is the fact that we will one day die. So when prayers are sometimes not answered in the way we wish, we are encouraged that our greatest problem has been answered by God himself in providing the sacrifice for our sin so we can live eternally with him, his purpose for us in the first place!

Meditation: What a joy to live in a day when we can see the finished work of Christ on the cross!
