Join the Scholarship Review Team

It’s scholarship season again! Many of you have supported scholarships through your generous financial contributions, and have helped students apply by writing letters of recommendation and reviewing their applications. Thank you! Your support is invaluable to ensure our students receive all possible resources to complete their education.

We currently offer over 175 scholarships and are in need of scholarship readers. Readers will be assigned to review applicants from one to four scholarships. For your convenience, the scholarship screening process is conducted online with training and assistance available, if needed.

If you are interested in joining the review team (currently 40 faculty and staff participate) simply email Kirsten DuBray. We anticipate the committees will start their review process by the middle of March and will be complete in two to three weeks.

It's Not Too Late for Students to Apply!

We currently have almost 40 scholarships with no qualified applicants! Please encourage your students to apply - they have a great chance to being awarded a scholarship! Deadline is March 3 and many scholarships no longer require a reference letter.

Gaming and Internet Addiction

Join us to explore the prevalence of internet and gaming addiction in our culture that increasingly relies on technology in all areas of our lives. We will share recent research around this growing disorder as well as how apps and video games are built to keep us hooked. Learn how to identify risk behaviors and limit addictive use patterns. We will also be sharing information on a group we will be starting around this issue specifically to support students. This event is brought to you by the American River College Mental Health and Wellness Team and will be held Monday, February 27 from 12 - 1:30 p.m. in the ARC Student Center, Community Room 1.

Note that we are also holding this event through Zoom on March 3.

FAFSA/CADAA Deadline March 2

Continuing students should plan ahead for the 2023-2024 school year and complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) by the deadline on Thursday, March 2!

Submitting their application by the deadline helps ensure they receive the maximum amount of financial aid possible. Applying early will also help ensure that they are ready for fall and don’t see delays in receiving their financial aid.

If they need help with their application, please refer them to the Financial Aid Office for support!

Your Future Starts Here

Los Rios has had a series of short videos produced promoting our colleges, our career education programs, and, most importantly, our students! Check out the video below on American River College’s ASL Program featuring student Jared Vincent.

Passing of a Colleague

It is with a heavy heart we share the news that former Natomas Center supervisor, Rae (Raymelle) Revel passed away last week. Rae started her Los Rios journey as a temporary classified employee and retired from her role as supervisor in September 2020 after more than 35 years of service. Rae had moved with her husband, Richard, to Arizona after retirement to be closer to her son and grandchildren.

We were informed that there will be a Northern California service at a later date and will share more information when we receive it.
