Your Voice Matters: Reviewing Board Policy 249 on Bullying and Cyberbullying

Policy 249: Bullying and Cyberbullying - Students, is up for review before the Board of Education. The purpose of Policy 249 is to prohibit bullying in line with the District’s commitment to providing a safe, positive learning environment for all students.  The policy outlines 1) the prohibition of bullying 2) employee reporting requirements and 3) the responsibility of District Offices to maintain an educational environment that discourages and prohibits bullying. The major goal of revising this policy was to update District’s definition of bullying and move procedural information from the policy to the associated Administrative Procedures. Revisions to the policy include the removal of definitions, examples and procedural content to the Administrative Procedures that accompany this policy.

Keeping Kids Healthy: What to Know About Flu, RSV, & COVID-19 This Winter

Viral illnesses like colds, flu, RSV, and COVID-19 spread more easily in fall and winter, so we recommend getting the flu and COVID-19 vaccines soon. The Ala Stanford Center for Health Equity offers free vaccines—register here. Children should attend school if they're generally healthy, but students with severe symptoms like a heavy runny nose, persistent cough, breathing trouble, fever, or if they appear unwell should stay home. They can return when symptoms improve and they're fever-free for 24 hours without medication, and after COVID-19, we suggest wearing a mask for 5 days when back at school. More health guidance is available here. Testing helps reduce COVID-19 spread—find local testing sites here or visit covid.gov/tests to order free at-home tests.
