Bye-bye GCI email

I have heard through a few people that GCI will be getting rid of their email service next year. As people who use GCI email begin to change their email addresses, please make sure you notify your church office as well as the conference office. We want to make sure we are sending emails to active accounts. Thanks!

Back to School

As we begin a new school year, please remember that this is an important time to prepare for our Fall children and youth ministries.  Let's keep our children safe by making sure background checks and sexual awareness trainings are up to date. It would also be a good time to take a fresh look at your church's safe church policies and revise them as needed. Annual trainings are required of volunteers.  Ministry Safe, the company that does background checks has wonderful training resources to help us all meet our annual training requirements. What about having a watch party with your children's and youth leaders to review important safety material? Some of the video options include Sexual Abuse Awareness Training, Child Safety Workshop, Policies and Procedures, Reporting Child Sexual Abuse, and Third-Party Use of Facilities.  Policy-wise, a reminder to our churches that the conference updated our AK safe church policies to make our work even safer and to comply with the requirements of the General Board of Global Ministries. Here is a link to the policy adopted at conference.   Blessings on the start of this new school year.

Charge Conference paperwork is out!

We will mostly be using an online reporting system for church charge conference paperwork this year. Most of the forms will have the identical questions as in past years but you will not be filling out a PDF or Word document anymore, you will be answering the questions online.

You will have access to these forms through your People Portal. Clergy should have accessed their People Portal at lease once already and some church leadership may have as well. Here is a link with a step by step process on how to login.

I am here to help! If you have a question or are having trouble logging in, please contact Crystal in the conference office so I can assist you. This is what I am here for!

Gearing up to help Lahaina recover

The California-Pacific Conference has mobilized its Disaster Response Task Force, which is developing plans to help the people of Lahaina, a historic Hawaiian town largely destroyed by wildfires. The fires have killed at least 55 people. People are asked not to send goods to the disaster area. Values Statement
We acknowledge that the Methodist Church is complicit with and rooted in the colonization of Alaska and recognize that we live in that ongoing legacy. We lament the harm and trauma that our faith community causes. John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Movement, summarized God’s directives with three Rules: do no harm, do good, and attend to the ordinances of God. We also celebrate the grace, the love, and the good that our church does that calls us to re-imagine mission through intentional discipleship with one another.
We will live into the transition to a Mission District committed to:
Alaska Conference Values
  1. The love of God, neighbor, and self, demonstrated by the deliberate embracing and valuing of differences, the leveling of imbalances between people and systems, and the intentional dismantling of inequities in whatever forms they present themselves.
  2. Healing, grace-filled mission with communities and churches that prioritizes local experiences and shares resources across time and distance through equitable relationships.
  3. Living into connectionalism by belonging to and trusting in one another to nurture relationships that celebrate the gifts each of our communities bring, allowing us to move forward in a decolonized way.
