Upcoming Program Highlight

We are hosting FREE community screenings of three Screenager films at Stilly Valley Health Connections. You are invited to attend one or all three. After each viewing, there will be time to discuss the important points raised in the film.

Age Edition


Are you concerned that kids are using digital devices at too young an age?

In the movie, Screenagers: Elementary School Age Edition,

Dr. Ruston explores the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics, and internet addiction.

Through insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, this movie reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions for empowering kids to navigate the digital world and find balance.

Addressing Mental Health in the Digital Age


Millions of young people experience high stress, anxiety, and depression. In Screenagers Next Chapter: Addressing Mental Health in the Digital Age, we follow physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston as she discovers solutions for improved adolescent stress, anxiety, and depression in the digital age.


Learn how screen time may be impacting our teen’s mental health, and what we can do to help support youth in the face of their struggles.


After the screening we will have 30 minutes to discuss the important points raised in the film.

Vaping Drugs & Alcohol

in the Digital Age

The film, Screenagers Under The Influence: Addressing Vaping, Drugs, and Alcohol in the Digital Age, delves into how the tech revolution has reshaped adolescence and its effects on substance use.


The film debunks myths and depicts strategies parents and schools can use to encourage healthy decision-making, support teen mental health, set limits, and create healthy home environments. The film also includes many ways young people are using their wisdom and strength to help each other and themselves through this complicated terrain around substance use.

Mental Health Programs

The Impact of Social Media on Teen Mental Health


This session will explore the impact social media has on the current state of teen mental health. Learn strategies on how to have conversations with your teen about social media use, how to identify reliable information and potential risks, as well as how to create healthy boundaries with social media.


The class will be led by Brianne Rokey, EDS, NCSP, LMHC, a Mental Health Counselor and School Psychologist.

QPR Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training


In this 90-minute in-person QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) training, attendees will learn three steps that can be taken to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond. Instruction will be provided by QPR trainer, Wendy Burchill, with the Snohomish County Health Department. QPR Suicide Prevention Training is free and open to anyone in the community age 16 or older.

Coming in November:

Many of us have confided in others during dark times and vice versa. But it can feel awkward, if not downright frightening, not knowing what to do when a loved one or a peer shows suicide warning signs. Developed by Forefront, the five simple and effective LEARN steps empower individuals to help others move in the direction of hope, recovery, and survival.

Parenting Through School Anxiety and School Avoidance


Many children experience anxiety about attending school and some may refuse to go at all. School absenteeism can create stress for the student and their family members. This class is a helpful starting place for parents and guardians to learn the root causes of school anxiety/avoidance, how to listen to your student, and set boundaries. By the end of the class, you will have tools and tips on how to help your student work through their fears and make positive changes for the current and future school years.

Monthly Demonstration:

Soups, Stews, and Bone Broths


With the days getting shorter and the weather growing colder, October is the perfect month to spend time in the kitchen. Join us for this class to learn a variety of comforting soups, stews, and bone broths that will keep you warm all autumn long.


The class will be led by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from Sound Dietitians, LLC, and is sponsored by Skagit Regional Health. Recipes from the class will be shared with participants.

Food & Your Mood: The Link Between Nutrition and Mental Health 2-Part Series


Research shows there is a direct link between what we eat and how we feel. During this two-part virtual series, participants will learn the impact certain foods have on mood, as well as tips on how establishing a healthy diet can lead to improved mental health and well-being.

 

This series will be led by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from Sound Dietitians, LLC. The second session will be built on the first, so we encourage participants to attend both sessions.

Health and Safety Programs

Overdose Prevention and Narcan Training

with Snohomish County


Join Amy Wheat, Opioid Outreach Specialist with Snohomish County Human Services, to learn how to administer Narcan (Naloxone), a nasal spray that can block the effects of an opioid overdose. This training will include information about what an opioid overdose looks like and why the addition of fentanyl increases the danger of a deadly overdose.


This hybrid training is free and open to anyone in the community. Information on how to obtain Narcan at no charge will be provided. This is the link to register for the in-person training.

Dentist and Dental Assistants Needed in Darrington this Fall!


Stilly Valley Health Connections will be hosting the Medical Teams International dental van in Darrington, on October 15. This rural Snohomish County area offers limited dental access for low-income clients and these resources are crucial.
