Construction Activity
Week of February 6, 2023

Construction activity continues along the I-10 throughout the project area. Nightly single-lane closures along eastbound and westbound I-10 are still in place between 7 p.m. - 5 a.m.

  • A nightly single-lane closure along eastbound I-10 from east of Dillon Road to east of the Cactus City Rest Area will be in place for crews to safely set k-rail barriers along the inside shoulder.

  • A nightly single-lane closure along westbound I-10 from east of the Cactus City Rest Area to east of Dillon Road will be in place for crews to stage equipment and safely enter and exit the work area.

  • To enhance motorist and environmental safety, crews will begin installing temporary tortoise fencing throughout the project.

Please note, construction is dependent on many variables including weather, construction material, and crew availability. All schedule information is subject to change.
Project Updates

If you're traveling to Arizona for the Big Game this weekend, please allow for extra travel time.
Stay alert, reduce your traveling speed to 55mph in work zones and never drink and drive.
Our team reminds all motorists and freight carriers to utilize roadway shoulders if you are involved in a minor accident or need to pull over. Lane closures and work zones created using k-rail, traffic cones, or other temporary barriers are for construction access only, and should not be utilized by the traveling public.
Project Background
The I-10 Desert Rehab Project segment is a 13 mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
