From the Director

Madrone Trail Community,

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and pledged money to this year’s Jog-A-Thon. It was a beautiful autumn day for the event, and I look forward to hearing the results. There is another opportunity to help out, as TOMORROW is our FALL STEWARDSHIP DAY, FROM 10:00 AM- 1:00PM. We need volunteers to help with gardening, landscaping, deconstruction, hauling and painting. You can sign up for the job you want using the link below, or you can just show up and join in wherever you’d like. It should be another sunny day, and we hope to see you there. Snacks, drinks, and lunch will be provided for all volunteers.

Thanks everyone!

Stewardship Day Sign-Up Sheet

From the Board

Hello Madrone Trail!

The board of directors would just like to inform you that starting in the month of November we will be moving our meeting to the 3rd Thursday of each month. We are making this shift so that our budget committee and book keepers have more time to get us accurate financial information before our meeting. Our next meeting will be November 21st at 4:30 pm on campus. These are public meetings and anyone is welcome to attend in person or watch the meeting virtually. The link to virtual option will be posted with the agenda 24-48 hours beforehand. Public comment is both welcomed and encouraged at a designated time toward the beginning of our meetings. We would love to hear from you! If you have any concerns or feedback you would like us to be aware of you can reach out via email at board@madronetrail.org.

Jog-a-thon a Success!

We had another successful Jog-a-thon today. We had perfect weather and the students ran so many laps! Thank you to all the parents, guardians, grandparents, and family members who came out to volunteer to mark laps, fill water cups, and cheer on the students.

Our top runners this year were:

Theo Gerig, 8th grade, 38 laps (New all-school record)

Bailey Briggs, 7th grade, 35 laps (New female record and ties 7th grade record set by Theo)

Solomon Stricker, 7th grade, 33 laps (top 3 finish of 7th grade all-time)

Titus Stewart, 8th grade, 32 laps (top 6 finish of 8th grade all-time)

Juno Battisti, 6th grade, 32 laps (top 4 finish of 6th grade all-time)

Zaemin Torrence, 6th grade, 32 laps (top 4 finish of 6th grade all-time)

Special shoutout to Theo and Juno who both ran these amazing totals on tired legs after cross-country district championships the day before.

We also had some amazing lap totals from the rest of the students. Twenty-nine students in 4th-8th grade ran 25 or more laps! We also had two grades records tied, in 1st grade (12 laps) and 3rd grade (24 laps). And many many students set personal best records this year. Every year it's so impressive how many laps the students can run.

We received lots of pledge sheets today that will be processed and turned back to the students next week. If you haven't turned in your pledge sheet in, it's not too late! Get it to Ms. Cori or your child's class teacher next week. There are extra Jog-a-thon forms in the office and on the website (click on the Jog-a-thon calendar event).

Reminder: Jog-a-thon pledges can be paid in cashchecks made out to MTPCS, or paid online through the link on our website, madronetrail.org/donate (PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, credit/debit cards accepted) or by using the QR Code on the Jog-a-thon pledge form. If you are using the online payment option or writing a check you can pay for more than one student in a single transaction/check, just include all jogger's names and the amount going to each child if not split evenly.

Meal Program and Farm-to-School Update

Soup season is here!

Which makes it a great week to feature our stone soup…

100% rock-free, our stone soup starts with onion, carrots, celery and tons of herbs followed by rich veggie broth and a plethora of vegetables like zucchini, sweet potatoes, and leafy greens as well as a legume or split peas and brown rice. Basically, all of the healthy things we have in the kitchen, slow simmered to delicious, nutritious perfection. Always vegan and gluten-free (served with optional bread, butter and string cheese). While it may not be the most popular choice every day, there are a few students who eat it every day. It’s the best when you need something warm and hearty!

Specials – October 21-25

Sandwich: Turkey w/ Pesto Mayo, Provolone & Spinach

Soup: Curried Butternut Squash

A Note About Soup & Sandwich Specials

Sandwich and soup specials each week are “while supplies last." They often feature items that are more costly or we don’t stock on a regular basis.

Kitchen Herb Garden Project

The farm-to-school committee has completed the design for our herb garden, which entails an enclosure similar to a raised bed to protect the garden from little feet with a Hügelkultur mound. We will break ground on the project at Stewardship Day on October 19 if you would like to pitch in!

Food Preservation Workshops

Are you interested in fermentation or food preservation? Want to improve your gut health and encourage your kids to try new vegetables? Chef Evan and friends will be announcing some workshops for this fall and early winter that will address vegetable fermentation and preservation. Participants (adults and students) will take home fermented items to enjoy while also helping stock up on reserves for the lunch program. Think pickled beets, dilly beans, kraut, and even kimchi! Contact Chef Evan if you are interested in helping facilitate or signing up as a student! Be on the lookout for dates and more details!

GENERAL PROGRAM INFO

If you missed the last updates with general information about the program, including snack policy and EZ app, please see the Friday Update from August 23.

From the Athletic Director

Well, our fall sports officially ended this week. I saw wonderful growth in both our volleyball players and our cross country runners throughout the season. I am grateful to all our Madrone participants. What a great start to our sports year here at Madrone!

One of the things I will be doing while on medical leave is working on our corporate sponsorships. Last year we were able to raise around $2,500 and we need to repeat that, if not more this year to make our sports budget work. One reason that we have to seek more sponsors than a public school is that as a charter school we do not have access to the large Medford general fund that other schools do and we operate on 80% of the funds that come in per students, with 20% going to MSD. That being said; please email me if you own a company and want to get involved or know of anyone that owns a company and may be looking to give back to the community through a sport sponsorship. I will be sending out our sport sponsorship letters over the next couple of weeks.

MOD Pizza Fundraiser

The 8th grade is hosting a fundraiser at the north location of MOD Pizza on Wednesday, October 30 from 10:30 am-10:00 pm. Tell the cashier you are from Madrone Trail and 20% of the proceeds of your order will go to our school. This is also the same day as the Middle School Dance, so make it a part of your dance plans to go either before or after the dance. You can also order online and use the code MODGIVES20. Thanks for supporting our school!

Looking Towards Halloween

We will be celebrating Halloween at school on Thursday, October 31. At Madrone Trail, this means we will have a parade of costumes after lunch and then individual class celebrations afterwards. Please do not send your child in their costume to school, or apply elaborate makeup they will have to wear all day as it is very distracting for the first part of the day. Kindergarten classes will be doing their own celebrations, look for specifics in your class emails from Miss Josclyn and Miss Gina.

As you look to purchase or make your child's Halloween costume this year please observe our school guidelines surrounding the Halloween costumes that they wear at school. If students would like to dress up in something that is outside these guidelines, we encourage them to do that on Halloween night instead of at school.

  • Bring your costume to change into before the parade. Parade will be at 1:30 pm on the track.
  • Homemade costumes are encouraged.
  • Costumes must follow the school dress code.
  • Keep face paint, make-up, and hair simple (you’re going to be applying it all at school.)
  • You must be able to sit, walk, hear, and see with your costume on (face masks can only be worn during the parade)
  • No costumes that are gory/scary.
  • No prop weapons.

An Easy Way to Support Madrone Trail

If you shop at Fred Meyer there is an easy way to earn money for our school! You only need to set it up once, then you are good to go.

The Fred Meyer Community Rewards program donates to local schools, community organizations, and non-profits. Go to their website. You will need to create a log-in if you don't have one already, or sign-in if you do. Search for Madrone Trail Public Charter School, and select us as your charity of choice. Every time you use your Fred Meyer Reward Card it will donate a small portion to our school. Last quarter our school earned $44.98 from 33 families, the more families we can get to do this the better!
