Friday 4-H Nugget

Greetings 4-H Community,

We are now midway into October! Have you completed your 4-H enrollment for 2024-2025 yet? If not take some time to get signed up here. There are many different things you can get involved with. Be sure to check out all of our 4-H projects we offer and try something new.

This past week our three 4-H educators spent several days attending the National Association of 4-H Youth Development Professionals conference sharping their skills, gaining new program ideas and even were selected for a poster and a workshop presentation. Be on the look out for new programs this year!

All the best,

Elkhart County 4-H Awarded $1000 Ag Literacy Grant

Elkhart County 4-H received a $1,000 Ag Literacy Challenge Grant from Indiana Farm Bureau to support an agricultural literacy program at Mary Daly Elementary, a Title I school. This program will engage 3rd-6th grade students in hands-on learning through gardening, poultry care, and entrepreneurship, with a focus on STEM education and healthy food practices. Students will develop a garden, expand the school’s poultry program, and sell produce and eggs at local markets. Special attention will be given to bilingual instruction to ensure the program is accessible to the school’s ESL population. This initiative aims to bridge educational gaps while building life skills and fostering a deeper connection to agriculture in the community.
