Ribbon-cutting photo of the new pickleball courts in Elk Rapids. Thanks to the Parks and Recreation Commission, four dedicated Pickleball Courts are open for play at Veterans Memorial Park from dawn until dusk, seven days a week.
They are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and play is restricted to 1 1/2 hours when others are waiting.

Fall 2024 Business Survey
Data from our local businesses is a critical input to our marketing strategy. This month we are launching the Fall Business Survey. We plan to deploy this survey on a quarterly basis to review trends from the prior quarter and plan for the upcoming quarter. We will use this data to measure the success of our marketing campaigns, as an input to future marketing campaigns, and to obtain valuable input from our businesses. New Grants Available for Small Businesses in Northwest Michigan
Act Now! Deadline to Apply is October 6, 2024
20Fathoms and Venture North have teamed up to provide a total of $45,000 in small business grants to startups in Northwest Michigan. Apply by Oct. 6, 2024. These grants are highly competitive and will be awarded to 8-12 small businesses for an average of $4,500 each.
Additional rounds of small business grants will be awarded in 2025.
To qualify, businesses must be headquartered in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, or Wexford counties. Individuals who are traditionally underrepresented in business ownership are especially encouraged to apply. This includes women, BIPOC, Native Americans, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.

NLEA Strategic Planning Survey
To deliver the most effective services and ensure an economically resilient region, the NLEA must continue finding ways as your economic development organization to improve, grow, and innovate. This is where we need your help. We're in the midst of a six-month strategic planning process that will result in a 3-Year Strategic Plan for the organization. We've conducted community feedback sessions, business roundtables with business leaders spanning industries, staff and board planning sessions, stakeholder interviews, and surveys. If you haven't had the chance yet to engage, but would like to, please fill out the stakeholder survey! The NLEA strategic planning efforts have been generously supported by the Fund for the Community of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation and the Cheboygan County Community Foundation.

The Chakra series includes 6 weekly classes that are designed to balance and align each of the body's energy centers, known as chakras. Chakra yoga classes use breathing, postures, and meditation to balance and awaken the body's energy centers, or chakras. The goal is to improve health and self-awareness and to help the body's life force, or prana, flow freely.
The classes will be taught alternately by Lisa Reehorst, ERYT 500, and Peg Whisler, RYT 500, both experienced and seasoned instructors.

Owl Prowl
