A Message from the Southern California Center for Latino Health
The Southern California Center for Latino Health wants to wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday season!
Here are five easy tips for healthy holiday eating:
-
Be mindful: During the holiday season, there is always food on the table. Pay attention to your hunger cues and try to eat only when you are hungry. When eating, do it slowly and savor every bite.
-
Be strategic: Make sure you load your plate with veggies and fiber-rich foods. If possible, use a smaller plate. If you are cooking, look at ways to modify holiday recipes by including healthy substitutions. For instance, use olive oil instead of lard, choose white meat without the skin, use fruit purees instead of sugar, etc. Remember to also watch your consumption of beverages. Sodas and alcoholic drinks tend to be loaded with sugar, so consume them in moderation.
-
Do not skip meals: Eating regularly can help curb cravings and overeating. Incorporate healthy snacks if needed.
-
Stay active: Exercise and physical activity can help manage stress, and overcome cravings and overeating during the holiday season. Stick to your fitness routine or try to incorporate at least 30 minutes of exercise every day.
-
Enjoy sweets in moderation: Have fun and enjoy all the treats that come with the season but remember, moderation is key.

Green beans are young, unripe fruits of various cultivars of the common bean, although immature or young pods of the runner bean, yard long bean, and hyacinth bean are used in a similar way. Green beans are known by many common names, including French beans, string beans, and snap beans or simply "snaps." In the Philippines, they are also known as "Baguio beans" or "habichuelas" to distinguish them from yard long beans.
Green Bean Casserole, the side dish everyone is expecting to have over the holidays, yet you can make it anytime. Created by Campbell Test Kitchen Manager, Dorcas Reilly, in 1955, its creamy, smooth sauce and unmatchable flavor combined with its simplicity makes this casserole so appealing. With just five ingredients and 10 minutes to put together, this side dish has been a favorite for over 60 years.
Ingredients
-
1 can (10 1/2 ounces) Campbell’s Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup or 98% Fat-Free Cream of Mushroom Soup or Condensed Unsalted Cream of Mushroom Soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 4 cups cooked cut green beans
-
1 1/3 cups French's French-Fried Onions
