Dear OCSA Families, Faculty, and Staff,

We would like to take this opportunity to provide you with an update regarding OCSA’s Coalition for Antiracism & Inclusion. The purpose of this communication is to share a high-level overview of the Coalition’s areas of focus for this school year, as informed by the initiatives established during the last school year. Moving forward, we plan to send at least one update per school year, in order to keep all OCSA constituents informed of the Coalition’s progress.

2021-2022 SUMMARY

During the 2021-2022 school year, OCSA Administration began implementing strategic initiatives from OCSA’s 2020-2021 Coalition for Antiracism & Inclusion Final Report. Guided by an Advisory Committee that included student, parent, alumni, and community representatives, the Coalition and its various members worked together and committed to ensuring a safe, just, and inclusive environment for student learning at OCSA.

The Coalition’s final report outlined OCSA’s commitment to a multi-year plan built upon six foundational pillars, or areas of priority, under which various strategic initiatives were established. These pillars have continued to pave the way for OCSA’s efforts in these important areas. The 2021-2022 Summary of Inclusivity Initiatives provides an overview of the work that was in progress leading into this current school year.

2022-2023 INITIATIVES

In alignment with guidance from OCSA’s Advisory Committee, the following initiatives have been designated as areas of focus for this school year.

We Will Continue To:

Broaden Restorative Practices Training for administrative, instructional, and counseling staff and continue to implement Restorative Circles and Community Circles in interventions to the degree possible.

Research employee recruitment best practices to expand opportunities for BIPOC candidates.

Utilize our Culturally and Linguistic Relevant Teaching (CLRT) framework to evaluate and support performance material and oversight.

Expand our partnerships with the community and intentionally design programs that serve the needs of their constituencies.

Implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to ensure equitable classroom experiences for all students.

Create opportunities for students’ voices to be heard and share feedback on the OCSA Administrative Team’s plans and updates for antiracism and inclusion initiatives.

For more information on the terminology used above, please refer to the Coalition for Antiracism & Inclusion Glossary of Terms. To learn more, visit www.ocsarts.net/Coalition.

We look forward to sharing a detailed update of the Coalition’s inclusivity initiatives progress at the conclusion of the school year. We will continue to check in with our Advisory Committee to periodically provide updates on progress milestones in our work.

Should you have any immediate questions, comments, or feedback to share, please feel free to reach out to ocsa.administration@ocsarts.net.

Sincerely,

OCSA Administration
