Construction Activities

Contractors are continuing to place temporary concrete barriers along southbound SR-55 and perform electrical work in both directions of SR-55. These activities require lane and ramp closures, nightly, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday, Dec. 12, to Friday, Dec. 16. View lane and ramp closures on the "Closures and Detours Map."


Crew are making progress on the construction of several retaining walls on Pullman Street between MacArthur Boulevard and Dyer Road. This work will continue through the end of the year and will include installing the framework and rebar, as well as pouring concrete.


This work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

Edinger Avenue Bridge Work

Lane Reductions Effective Dec. 13

Contractors will be constructing the columns and abutments for the Edinger Avenue bridge widening. This will require lane closures for approximately one year, through the end of December 2023.


WHAT: Crews will be restriping Edinger Avenue between Newport Avenue and Auto Mall Drive. The inside lanes in both directions will be closed. The two outside lanes will remain open to traffic.


WHEN: Restriping is set for as early as 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14.

About the Project

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
