Trinity Messenger

March 19, 2025

On February 23, we welcomed the Rev. Evelyn Wheeler as our supply priest.

The Rev. Carrie Combs plans to return to Trinity on April 7, the Monday before Palm Sunday.

Please wear your name badge at church, as it helps us learn each other's names!

If you need a badge, please sign up for one at the back of the church, by the entrance.

ECCT Spring Training & Gathering brings together leaders from around ECCT to explore new ideas, share resources, and deepen fellowship. Courses are taught by lay and ordained leaders from around the diocese.

On March 6 at Trinity Church in Lime Rock, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong spoke about the challenges presented by the Trump administration's recent acts, including attempts to end birthright citizenship and its plans for mass deportation of immigrants. Tong shared his personal story of being born on U.S. soil, a U.S. citizen of immigrant parents. He explained how the state's Trust Act works and champions the state's fight to protect the rights of its residents. The talk was hosted by Vecinos Seguros 2 (Safe Neighbors 2), a grassroots group in CT's Northwest Corner.

EMAIL SCAM ALERT!

A Trinity parishioner recently received an email saying it was Mother Carrie asking for gift cards for cancer patients.

This was not from Mother Carrie.

The email address from which it was sent did not reflect hers, which is clergy@trinity-torrington.org.

Please do not be fooled by this scam.

If you receive an email that seems suspicious, take a look at the email address - it might say it's from a name you recognize, but the actual email address may be very different from the real person's actual email address.

Read the suspicious email carefully, as it may contain phrases that are awkward or unusual, and possibly have poor grammar (some scammers are from other countries). There may also be a sense of urgency, asking you to reply quickly. These are all warning signs of a suspicious email - do not reply to them.

If you are still unsure if the email is legitimate, you can reach out to the person you think it's from by starting a new email, or by calling or texting them, to confirm that the email is really from them. DO NOT REPLY to the email, as of course they will say it is really them.

Torrington Community Gardens

The 2025 planting season is just around the corner! The Torrington Community Garden (one of Trinity’s outreach missions) has garden plots available at our University Drive site. There is a minimum price to rent a plot. Plus, since it is all volunteer and a community plot, certain tasks need to be assigned.

Grow your own veggies and flowers and get fresh air exercise in the bargain! With the prices of everything going up, now is a great time to grow your own.

White Privilege Conference #26

March 26-29, 2025

The White Privilege Conference (WPC) is a national event that brings participants together to discuss how white privilege, white supremacy, and oppression affect daily life, while giving strategies to address issues of privilege and oppression, and advance social and economic justice.

This year's WPC keynotes will be held at Christ Church Cathedral; the main conference location is the Capital Campus of CT State Community College across the street. Discounted registration and volunteer opportunities are available to CCC members and friends. Please contact gregory@cccathedral.org for more information.

Limited scholarships are also available to cover the full cost of registration - please contact dlittlepage@episcopalct.org to inquire.

Mtr. Carrie's Maternity Leave

Mother Carrie will be on maternity leave from now until April 7th (the Monday before Palm Sunday) with a combination of vacation and paid leave. During that time, our services of Holy Eucharist will be covered by two wonderful retired local clergy: the Rev. Marilyn Anderson and the Rev. Evelyn Wheeler. Emergency pastoral coverage for the first part of leave will be handled by Rev. Marilyn, and after that by a familiar face, the Rev. Nikolaus Combs.

The full document explaining who to contact about what, and how, can be found here.

If you have an announcement or event that you would like publicized, or if you are a parishioner involved in an event that you would like to share with the parish, please send it to The Portal at announcements@trinity-torrington.org, and we can then direct your announcement to the best method of communication.
