It's Fair Time: Hopping Into 30 Years! |
It's that time of year again! The Cumming Country Fair & Festival is "Hopping Into 30 Years" and will run daily October 3rd through 13th at the Cumming Fairgrounds, 235 Castleberry Road. Come out to enjoy all your favorite rides, carnival games, ground acts, arena shows, and, of course, fair food!
Advance, discount tickets can be purchased online through Oct. 2nd. Regular ticket price is $10 for ages 11 and up (ages 10 and under are free!), and advanced tickets are $7 for ages 11 and up. There are several free admission nights and ride specials on various days throughout the fair. For the complete fair schedule, click here.

Spook-tacular Month at the Cumming City Center |
It's spooky month and the Cumming City Center has several spook-tacular events planned for this month! Don't miss any of these great, family-friendly events:

Tin Cup Cruise-In Halloween Edition - October 24th, 6-8 p.m. Come out to Vision Drive to check out great classic cars and trucks with a Halloween theme!

2nd Annual HOWL-oween - October 26th, 4-8 p.m. Come out with all the kids (human and furry) for this fun-filled, pet-themed Halloween event featuring pet vendors, pet adoptions, activities for kids and pets, people and pet costume contest, treats for everyone, and more!

Movies Alfresco: Hocus Pocus - October 26th, 8-10 p.m. After HOWL-oween be sure to stick around for a Halloween classic, "Hocus Pocus," on the big screen at the Lou Sobh Amphitheater!

Crooked Culture Brooks Demo and Costume Contest - Oct. 29th, beginning a 7 p.m. Crooked Culture Brewing is partnering with Big Peach Running for a demo of the Brooks' Ghost Max and Glycerin Max running shoes and a costume contest.

Cumming Aquatic Center: Half-Price Family Fridays Return in October |
The Cumming Aquatic Center's Half-Price Family Fridays return this month on Friday, Oct. 18th, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Every third Friday of the month, come enjoy the Aquatic Center's indoor pools at half-off daily admission cost between the hours of 2 and 6 p.m.! This promotion does not apply to memberships, programs or group exercise classes.

Christmas Parade: Registration Now Open | Save the date for this year's City of Cumming Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 14th, beginning at 5 p.m.! Any group or individual interested in being in the parade can now register. Please click here for the registration form. Mayor & City Council September Meeting Recap |
During their Regular Meeting on September 17th (the September 3rd Work Session was canceled), City Council presented three proclamations:
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - Proclaimed September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and encouraged the community to support organizations such as the American Cancer Society in their efforts to research and develop new treatments.
Hispanic Heritage Month - Proclaimed September 15th through October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month, and honored people of Hispanic and Latino heritage for their contributions to our local community and nation.
Constitution Week - Proclaimed September 17th through 23rd at Constitution Week in honor of the 237th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. Members of the Chestatee River Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution accepted the proclamation.
City Council also took the following actions (all votes were 4-0, with Councilman Christopher Light absent):
- Approved the low bid from Bone Dry Roofing for emergency roof repairs to City Hall.
- Approved a rezoning application from Micter Enterprises for rezoning of 0.935 acres on Kelly Mill Road from Single Family Residential to Office Professional for use of the small house as an office.
- Approved an amendment to the City's Alcohol Ordinance to create a new special exception permit, and then approved the first such application by Grazey Girls LLC., located at 230 Elm Street, Suite 400.
- Authorized Mayor Brumbalow to sign documents relating to a Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority (GEFA) grant for Cumming Utilities to pay for new lead service line requirements of the U.S. EPA and Georgia EPD.
- Approved the low proposal from Foster Fence to replace the barbed wire fence along Environmental Campus Drive with black chain-link fence.
- Approved the low proposal from C.W. Matthews Contracting Company to replace waterline along Hwy. 20 West due to the Georgia Department of Transportation's widening project.

SAA Arts Center: October Exhibits | |
The Sawnee Association of the Arts presents "Elements: Fire, Water, Earth & Air" though October 26th. SAA members and non-member local artists used themes inspired by the natural elements to create unique artworks in various media. Come by the Arts Center at 111 Pilgrim Mill Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday to view the exhibit and shop in the artisan gift show.

"Sweeney Todd" Runs Through Oct. 13th | |
"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" continues at the School Street Playhouse through Oct. 13th. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2:30 p.m. Sundays. In this infamous tale, which was made into a blockbuster movie featuring Johnny Depp in 2007, an unjustly exiled barber returns to 19th Century London seeking vengeance against a lecherous judge who framed him after ravaging his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. The partnership, and Todd's bloodlust, leads to the introduction of a unique and ghastly ingredient into Mrs. Lovett's meat pies that has the people of London lining up for a taste.
