Chamber Legislation Spotlight AB 1228 (Holden)
Destroys Fast Food Restaurant Franchise Model

The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce has taken an "Oppose" position on AB 1228 by Assemblyman Chris Holden (D-Pasadena). This bill destroys the fast food restaurant franchise model in California by creating joint civil liability between franchisee and franchisor. AB 1228 passed the Assembly on May 31 and the Senate Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee on June 28. The bill was scheduled to be heard last week in the Senate Judiciary Committee but has been delayed to try to negotiate compromise amendments. Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Tom Umberg (D-Santa Ana/Anaheim) is requesting a waiver from the Senate Rules Committee to hold a special hearing on AB 1228 in August or September. |

The term has been widely adopted in the restaurant industry, and it's used all over the country to celebrate eating tacos. Even grocery stores have followed suit, offering discounts on taco ingredients on Tuesdays.
