Summer is almost here and with school letting out the Board of Trustees hopes all of our residents are finding time to enjoy the weather and all that our area has to offer. This is our 2^nd Quarter E-Newsletter which was started earlier in the year to help keep residents informed of all the great progress we are making for our wonderful Township. In this edition, you will find updates around administration (including Zoning) service department, safety services, the JEDD and a note from our board. Administration

Zoning Permits:

It's construction season which means homeowners are looking to complete projects such as replacing a driveway, building a deck or adding a shed to their backyard. Some residents are putting up pools, adding a patio or even looking to put an addition onto their home. Northfield Center Township Zoning receives over 100 zoning requests a year and our goal is to ensure all residents are following zoning codes so that property values remain strong. There are many times where residents do not obtain a permit either because they didn’t know they needed one or they thought their contractor was getting it. Zoning Inspector Tim Black’s best advice "always call the township if you think you may need a permit as we are here to help assist and guide residents". Zoning permits ensure you are in compliance with zoning rules and that the contractor is following those rules as well. Digital Record Keeping:

Our office manager has been hard at work with records management as we continue to digitize our records making it easy to retain and ensuring records are saved. Digitizing our records, which includes meeting minutes and agendas from our Board of Trustees and Zoning Boards, gives us the opportunity to eliminate 3,600 pounds of paper which was shredded and recycled. Moving these records into our electronic format has saved the township time and money!

Solicitors:

Summer always brings out more and more solicitors. Solicitors are required to register with the Township before they start knocking on doors. NOPEC partners with Northfield Center Township residents who want to avoid solicitors. If you would like to sign up for the "Do not Knock List, please sign up here. This ensures those solicitors that do register through the township are provided a list of residents that do not want to be solicited.

Safety

In the March election, our residents said No to a tax increase to fund our policing contract with the Summit County Sheriff's office. As with all costs of service, the Sheriff's contract has increased year after year due to their increased costs. The Township has not asked residents for any additional funds for policing for more than 10 years. Summit County Sheriff Office provides many services to the township, including a school resource officer, Senior Watch, Bomb Squad, SWAT and K-9 units. These services were critical just recently as there was an incident that happened in April where a resident barricaded himself in his house. Summit County Sheriff Office was quick to respond with multiple departments and the situation was able to be resolved peacefully. The Board of Trustees is considering putting the levy back on the ballot in November.

Last week the Sheriff Office moved into space allocated to them when the township built the new Safety and Administration Building. We welcomed them with an Open House event where residents could interact with safety personnel and get a first hand look at their equipment and the services they provide. The Northfield Center Township Board of Trustees values its relationship with the Summit County Sheriff office which has covered our township for over 50 years!

The Board of Trustees continues to look to improve and ensure we have the best life saving equipment for our rescue squads. Working with the City of Macedonia and Fire Chief Brian Ripley, the Board of Trustees approved a purchase of a new Heart Monitor system for our ambulance. That purchase was made possible by the Fire Levy that was passed in 2022. We thank Macedonia Fire for all that they do for our township.

Service

In March, the township put into service a new flatbed truck. This truck replaces a truck that had over 300k miles on it! As the weather continues to improve, our service department is working hard and has started ditching and they are also working on the over 600 catch basins to inspect and repair in the township. The township continues to work on our road maintenance program and just approved a dozen roads to be repaired this year with a cost of right around $300,000. Paving will begin with Rolling Brooke, then Skylane, Pleasantview, Springcreek, Forestwood and Timberlane.

Reminder to any resident that lives on a county road such as Brandywine, Olde 8 and Twinsburg Road(s). Summit County is no longer cutting the grass in your ditch. The Summit County Engineer has issued a policy on residents responsibility for mowing the right of way. Please click the link below for details on this new policy County Policy

JEDD/Business Spotlight:

The Joint Economic Development District, or JEDD, is a joint venture between Northfield Center Township and the City of Macedonia which allows the collection of payroll tax. That tax is split 50/50 and helps fund vital services such as road projects and other expenses. The township is always looking for ways to expand the JEDD which brings in additional tax dollars but also new businesses and economic growth. Our newest business to enter the JEDD is Nordonia Dental, which is located at 98 W. Aurora Rd, features a brand new 7,000 square foot state of the art dental office and employs more than 30 employees. The brand new building is a beautiful addition to the community!

Trustees Corner

The Board of Trustees have been working hard to ensure the township has a plan for the Old Fire Station on Rt 82. The Township moved out of the old Fire Station on Route 82 back in May of 2023 and into our new station at 8484 Olde Eight Rd. The property is for sale and the Board of Trustees is currently reviewing proposals and looking at options as to the future of that property. The Board will continue to meet to discuss what is best both financially and long term for the township.
