Respiratory illness and flu season is here!

As we do each fall, and when necessary, our Health Task Force meets to ensure we are taking a proactive approach to your health and safety as we enter flu season and continue to deal with respiratory viruses like COVID-19 and RSV. Here are some key points and recommendations:

Flu Vaccine Clinics

Northern will offer flu vaccine clinics on the following dates:

• Tuesday, 10/22/24: Wheeling Campus – 11 AM to 1 PM

• Wednesday, 10/23/24: Weirton Campus – 12 PM to 1 PM

• Thursday, 10/24/24: New Martinsville Campus – 12 PM to 1 PM

Look for more details in the coming weeks.

Flu season in the U.S. typically begins in October and extends into spring. The CDC recommends getting your flu vaccine annually, preferably in October. For the latest updates on flu season, visit CDC Flu Information

Prioritize Your Health

If you are feeling ill or exhibit symptoms of a respiratory virus, please:

• Stay home.

• Notify your instructor or supervisor about your illness.

• Return to normal activities only after your symptoms have been gone for 24 hours.

• Exercise additional precautions for the next 5 days, such as social distancing or wearing a mask.

• If you have been exposed to someone with a respiratory virus you do not need to quarantine, however please be aware if you start to get symptoms and take precautions if you do develop symptoms.

• For current guidelines, visit CDC Respiratory Virus Guidance.

Vaccinate

We urge all eligible individuals to get vaccinated and receive booster shots as needed. To find a vaccination site near you, visit Vaccines.gov.
