Daylight Savings Reminder!

This year, daylight saving time (DST) begins on Sunday, March 9th. Your clock will "spring" forward one hour at 2 a.m. Unfortunately, this means you will lose an hour of sleep...

Fun Fact:

Because of its desert climate, most of Arizona doesn't follow daylight saving time (with the exception of the Navajo Nation).

United Thank Offering Results

Thank you to everyone that donated to Emmanuel's UTO campaign for 2025. We raised a total of $858.16! This money will be donated directly to UTO with 100% of it going towards supporting ministries throughout The Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion.

A special thanks to Margo and Hank Smith, as well as Sofia Mancini and Mary Jane Kuhn for planning, running and promoting the UTO campaign. You all did a great job!

Mandi's Prayer of Lovingkindness

The Rev. Mandi Rice shared a prayer of lovingkindness with the congregation in her sermon on February 23rd. Mandi said of the prayer "I was taught to pray this first for myself, then for a loved one, for someone neutral, for someone a little irksome, and finally for someone for whom I feel strong negative feelings." Below is the version of the prayer that Mandi uses:

May I be happy

May I healthy

May I safe

May I at ease

May they be happy

May they be healthy

May they be safe

May they be at ease

Coming Soon - Formation on Zoom!

Starting on Sunday, March 23rd, Formation will be both in-person and on Zoom! This new hybrid approach will allow our growing online congregation to participate in Formation. We plan on doing hybrid Formations when we have a speaker or presentation. To join the Zoom visit our "For Members" page and find the Zoom link called "Formation Zoom"

Link to "For Members" page: To access the page, you will need to sign in to your account on the Emmanuel website. Contact Elliot for assistance.

Please give us grace as we figure out how to best handle this hybrid approach. Feedback from our online congregation is appreciated; please email Elliot.

LENT AND HOLY WEEK

Select-A-Saint for Lent!

From Valori+:

We enjoyed time together preparing for our journey with a saint beginning in Lent and continuing through All Saints Day, Nov 1. Using the Lent Madness Saintly Scorecard as a starting point, we learned how to invite and listen for a saint to connect with and take this journey.

During Lent, we will spend time learning about this saint and preparing for our All Saints Sunday solemn process by making a placard with the image and some info about our saint, or finding an artifact that represents our saint to carry in procession OR making a costume and processing in dressed as them!

If you haven't connected with your saint for the journey yet, here are a few links to help you:

Lenten Almsgiving

Lenten almsgiving is the act of giving to the poor and performing charitable acts during Lent. It's one of the three main practices of Lent, along with fasting and prayer.

At Emmanuel, we will have Lenten Almsgiving boxes in the parish hall and narthex. All money collected in these boxes will go to our Food Center.

Lent has begun!

During Lent, please check out the newsletter each week for a weekly reflection prompt provided by UTO. Each day, spend a little time reflecting on this prompt. The overall theme is "welcome", what it means and how it is offered in our world:

Week 2: This week, we ask you to notice and give thanks for the people who offer welcome in your communities.

  • Notice and respond to anyone who welcomes you as you enter a store.
  • Notice how your town or community (or church!) welcomes people when they visit or move to town. How can or do you offer welcome?
  • Notice and give thanks for the actions of others that help you feel welcome at school, work, or home.

YOUTH CORNER

Upper Elementary Meeting

After a recent meeting with formation leaders, we realized there is a need to engage our older kids (3rd-5th grade) a bit more in our Emmanuel formation. This upper elementary group tends to feel a bit too old for some of the FaithQuest activities, and yet they are too young for our youth group. (which begins in 6th grade). To help address this group's needs we will be having a meeting on March 23rd led by Valori+ to get your ideas and your feedback.

If you have a child in 3rd-5th grade and you did not already receive an email from Katie Gregston, please reach out to Katie. We want to reach as many children as possible!
