It's the moment you have all been waiting for...the Disabilities Ministry Committee's somewhat regular newsletter! Read on to learn ways you can be a better ally, how to become involved and what we've been up to.

Ways the Committee is helping our church become a more welcoming place for people with disabilities

  • By September 8, we will have sound enhancers, magnifiers, lights and large print hymnals and Bibles available at each service. Look for a table with these supplies near the Sanctuary doors.
  • The Committee will also be investigating where in the Sanctuary the sound is easiest to hear and will be reporting our findings.
  • All bread for Communion is gluten free.
  • Ushers are available to assist with opening restroom doors and help those using wheelchairs go up and down the ramp.

How you can become involved

  • Stairs can be challenging, so handrails are important. Be aware where you are standing and chatting that you aren't blocking the handrails.
  • Please leave the fragrance at home as it can create a barrier to those who are sensitive attending worship.
  • Donate supplies for the monthly Inclusive Game Night. Either purchase through the link or if you choose to eschew Amazon, drop off your donation in the church office.

  • Come play a game at Inclusive Game Night! You'll meet new people, provide a safe place for families and individuals to socialize and...you'll have a great time. Come as an official volunteer or just attend to play game with a wide variety of people.
  • Volunteer in the Disabilities Classroom, which is located in Room 4. This is a vital component of our ministry providing a safe place for children and adults who find the worship service challenging. This allows parents and caregivers time to worship and fellowship with others. Plus there's often more game playing!

The Sewing Circle created wonderful coverings for the three rolling carts which hold many of the supplies for Inclusive Game Nights. The Building and Grounds Committee donated one cart, and the Mission Committee donated funds that purchased the other

two carts.
