Securing Your Legacy with Love & Planning

June is a special month as we take the time to honor the incredible fathers and father figures who have shaped our lives with their wisdom, guidance, and unwavering support. At Botti & Morison Estate Planning Attorneys, we believe that one of the greatest gifts a father can give is the assurance of a secure future for his loved ones.

Father's Day reminds us of the vital role fathers play in protecting their families, not just today, but for generations to come. Just as fathers diligently work to provide and care for their families, proper estate planning is a crucial step in safeguarding your family's legacy and ensuring their financial security.

This month, as we celebrate the fathers in our lives, let's also take a moment to reflect on the importance of estate planning. By crafting a comprehensive estate plan, you can:

  • Preserve your hard-earned assets
  • Ensure your wishes are honored
  • Provide for your family's future

At Botti & Morison, we are dedicated to helping you protect what matters most. Our team of experienced attorneys is here to guide you through the estate planning process, making it simple and effective.

In honor of Father's Day, we urge you to review your existing plan documents to ensure they align with your current wishes and reflect any recent changes in your family or financial situation.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous Father's Day.

Warm regards,

The Botti & Morison Team

Estate Plans for

Blended Families

Blended families, comprising parents and children from previous relationships, are increasingly common. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 130 million Americans have at least one step relative. This underscores the importance of tailored estate planning for blended families, as a significant portion of the population is navigating the complexities of these family structures. Careful consideration is needed to ensure all family members are fairly provided for and to minimize potential conflicts.

One of the primary concerns in blended families is ensuring that biological and stepchildren are treated fairly in the estate plan. Without clear instructions, the default inheritance laws may not reflect the deceased’s intentions, potentially leaving some children with nothing.

Estate Planning F.A.Q.s

Q. Are my bank accounts automatically added to my trust upon signing the trust?

A. No. To ensure your accounts will be distributed properly upon your death, you must either title the account in the name of your trust by completing paperwork provided by the applicable institution or designate a beneficiary or beneficiaries on the account. Either the trust or individual(s) can be designated a beneficiary on an account, and the beneficiary designation paperwork will be provided by the applicable institution. This is an important part of the trust funding process and should be completed as soon as possible once your trust is executed.
