Down Payment Resource, the nationwide database for homebuyer programs, released its Fourth Quarter 2019 Homeownership Program Index (HPI). The latest HPI data debunks five common down payment myths that may be keeping buyers on the sidelines longer than necessary.  DPR communicates with 1,165 program administrators to track and update the country's wide range of homeownership programs, including down payment and closing cost programs, Mortgage Credit Certificates (MCCs), affordable first mortgages and more.

As the cost of higher education increases, a startling  number of students in post-secondary institutions experience homelessness. A  survey of 86,000 college students found 14 percent of students at four-year universities and 18 percent of students at community colleges experienced homelessness or did not have a stable place to live at some point during college.
For youth experiencing homelessness, post-secondary education can improve  future stability, yet formal education is difficult to attain while experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.

The high cost of land poses a significant barrier to producing affordable housing. Land acquisition  accounts  for 15 percent of total development costs, with some local estimates as high as  35 percent . Housing is expensive to construct and maintain, so every dollar saved on land or other costs helps affordable developments  pencil out Leveraging public land for affordable housing  allows local jurisdictions to make a substantial contribution to more affordable housing without  imposing additional taxes or fees on residents.
