A Word from our General Presbyter

I feel the clock running out. It brings a certain sense of freedom. When certain groups say, “Let’s schedule our next meeting in September,” I think, “I don’t have to worry about that.” Sometimes I’ll write the meeting date down on the calendar anyway. Sometimes I don’t. There’s also a certain sense of regret – things I could have done better or at least done differently as well as things that I know I’m not going to be able to wrap up before I get off the bus. Perhaps the deepest sense of regret comes from the fact that the Bluestone Working Group won’t be able to finish its work before July 31.

Last call to order 2023-24 Presbyterian planning calendars

The order deadline to get a Presbyterian planning calendar from PWV is tomorrow: Friday, June 23. These calendars, which run September through next December, will be $11 through us, which will save you $6 off the retail cost through the PC(USA) Store. If the above link doesn't work, email office@wvpresbytery.org or call 304-744-7634 and speak to Amy Robinson or leave her a message with your name, church, and the number of calendars you need. The price is for pickup at the August 17 Presbytery meeting at Fayetteville Presbyterian Church or regional delivery from PWV staff after that; if we mail your order to you, there will be an additional postage fee, calculated according to order size. An invoice for your total cost will be included with your order; it will contain information on how to pay online by credit card or through the mail/in person by check.

Order copies of the 2023-2025 Book of Order

The 2023-2025 Book of Order includes the fully revised Church Discipline section as well as significant changes including new congregational policies. The Presbytery will place a bulk order for a cost of $9 per book, which includes the cost of shipping to the Presbytery. This price is for those books picked up from Charleston or a “regional” delivery location; any books mailed from the Presbytery to you will incur an additional delivery fee. Deadline for all orders is Monday, July 31. All pastors, especially those who moderate sessions, are strongly encouraged to update their Book of Order.

Davis Memorial, Gassaway to host special service on Sunday with Islamic Association of WV Imam

At their 11 a.m. service on Sunday, Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, Gassaway, will host Imam Nasir Abdussalam of the Islamic Association of West Virginia in South Charleston for a dialogue sermon on the interpretation of Genesis 21: 1-20, where Hagar is sent away. The Judeo-Christian faith emphasizes Abraham and Sarah and discounts Hagar's position, whereas the Muslim faith sees Hagar as equal to Sarah. The church, located at 206 Birch St., extends a cordial welcome to anyone of any faith tradition who might be interested in learning about the relationship between the Judeo-Christian perspective and the Muslim perspective. For more, contact James Riggs at 304-918-3211.
