Don't put temporary signs in the public right-of-way

If you plan to show your support for a political campaign with a sign this election season, make sure you place it on private property. Unauthorized temporary signs are not allowed in the public right-of-way.

State ORS 368.942 and Washington County RO98-197 allow us to remove unauthorized signs in unincorporated Washington County right-of-way without notice. This includes:

  • Political signs
  • Real estate signs
  • Garage sale signs
  • Signs attached to structures like signposts or utility poles and cabinets

Unauthorized roadside signs can block sight distance, traffic devices and/or access to sidewalks.

We remove signs as resources allow. The sign content is not a factor in whether we remove it or not. If we remove one of your signs, you may be able to claim it for up to 30 days. Learn more.

Construction to begin on Timber Road Landslide Repair

Construction is scheduled to begin on the Timber Road Landslide Repair on Tuesday (Sept. 3). The will remain closed between Strassel and Cochran roads throughout construction.

Our contractor will begin preparing the work site by installing erosion control and removing the asphalt from the road. We expect the contractor will begin excavating the slope by mid-September. In the following months, they will rebuild the slope with stronger materials, add a stone embankment for additional support and rebuild the road on top.

Construction is scheduled to finish in late December. Visit Timber Road Landslide Repair for regular updates.

Comment Opportunities

Visit the Transit Development Plan online open house and take a survey to help us identify improvements to public transportation in rural Washington County and other areas not well served by TriMet bus routes.
