MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
The murderous attack this past Saturday night on Club Q, an LGBTQ+ venue in Colorado Springs, which left at least five dead, dozens more injured, and countless families and communities changed forever, reminds us of our need to be ever-vigilant in combatting hate-fueled violence. This wasn't the only shocking incident this weekend; in New York, vigilance led to arrests tied to threats against the Jewish community. The tragedy in Colorado Springs looks to be the latest in a long line of extremist attacks targeting marginalized communities. Living in diverse communities like Ossining, it is especially important that we condemn such horrific attacks. Communities at risk of hate-fueled violence understand that an attack on one of our communities is an attack on all—my sincere condolences to the families of all who these violent acts have forever changed.
As we enter the holiday season, please consider contributing food and toys to the many fine organizations throughout Ossining, including the Toys for Tots location at Village Hall. Since the holidays are all about giving – the best gift you can give local businesses is your support. Please consider shopping local to support our many small businesses: Shop Small this Small Business Saturday® on Nov 26 to kick off the season in a meaningful way.
One of my goals as Mayor is to put us on the map as a place for innovation. One of my other goals is to be the greenest Village in the county. I am happy to report that as we close 2022, we are moving closer and closer to accomplishing both these goals.

Did you see the news about the Village of Ossining's big win last week? If not, be sure to read my Special Message from the Mayor for full details!
Budgets, Budgets, Budgets! As you all know, one of the most important fiduciary responsibilities of your elected representatives in the Village is to put together meaningful budgets that allow for the best possible services to the community while spending conservatively and responsibly. I am very excited to report that the budget this year has a 9% tax rate REDUCTION for the first time in decades. Click here to review the proposed 2023 budget.
In the spirit of our democratic process and the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I want to personally thank all the voters and volunteers who helped on all the Get Out and Vote campaigns. I am especially grateful that 83% of the voters in Westchester voted in favor of Prop 1, which sets aside more than $4 billion to be invested back into our environmental initiatives across the state. I expect Ossining to continue to benefit from these fund pools, which remove the burden of paying for large-scale environmental improvements from individual local taxpayers.
There is so much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. Every day, I am thankful for the hard work of our elected officials, volunteers, community leaders, and Village staff. Through them, our Village runs smoothly, and so much gets done yet often goes unseen. I wish everyone in our community an enjoyable holiday – filled with both new and old traditions that make your family’s holiday special. Have a very happy Thanksgiving!
There is no Village Work Session this week due to the holiday.
