IMPORTANT! CE Updates and News

In 2024, dental licenses will need to be renewed again. While that seems like a long way off, it is never too early to start obtaining your continuing education (CE) that is required for the license renewal. As a reminder over the next three-year period:

  • Dentists are required to have a minimum of 48 hours of CE
  • Dental hygienists are required to have a minimum of 36 hours of CE

IDFPR has indicated to ISDS the "in-person vs. correspondence" requirement will revert back to how it was before the COVID-19 pandemic. This means no more than 50% of the required CE credits will be allowed to be obtained through a "correspondence" (i.e. on-demand webinar) class. A "live" webinar is still classified as an "in-person" class.

Here are some ways to obtain continuing education credit for 2024 license renewal:

ADA Comments to FTC on Deceptive Online Reviews of Dental Practices

On January 5, 2023, the ADA responded to an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on deceptive online reviews. The letter expresses the ADA's concerns about social media reviews that may not be from actual patients of the dental practice or that may misrepresent the patient's experience with the dental practice. Dentists may be constrained from responding to these reviews due to federal and state privacy laws. The ADA urges the FTC to create an exception to enforcement to permit health care providers to disclose patient information in response to reviews without violating the prohibition provided the disclosure is limited to the scope of topics addressed in the review.

1 CE Credit

Presented by the ADA Council on Advocacy for Access & Prevention

Social media is an integral part of our lives as oral healthcare providers. It is an outlet for connection and learning, but there are downsides. What if you are a victim of harassment, bullying, gaslighting or trolling? Come to this lecture and learn - from the emergency medicine provider perspective - more about the downsides of social media, how to protect yourself, and what to do if you are a victim. Learners will be able to review cases of bullying and harassment of healthcare workers; how to protect yourself from the downsides of social media; and discuss some positive ways to use social media in your practice.

IMPORTANT ALERT! Legislation Passes to Delay

the E-Prescription Requirement Until 2024

The ISDS lobbying team, working with other healthcare provider groups, has been successful in passing legislation that delays the requirement for all controlled substance prescriptions of Schedule II, III, IV, or V drugs to be submitted in an electronic format until January 1, 2024 (currently January 1, 2023).

This legislation was included in a larger package of other bills. The legislation has passed both the Senate and House chambers unanimously. In order for the delay to be fully in effect, the Governor still needs to sign the legislation.

If signed by the Governor, ISDS will work with all stakeholders to come up with an agreed solution on this issue.

We will keep our members informed of the progress of this legislation and the status of this issue as we move forward toward the implementation of this requirement in 2024.
