The Annual Meeting will take place next week. We will have a single service at 9:00, followed by a potluck brunch, and then the Annual Meeting. All confirmed communicants over the age of 16 are eligible to vote, and all confirmed communicants over the age of 18 are eligible to run for Vestry, Synod, and Deanery.
We will elect three Vestry members to fill the vacancies created by the expiration of the terms of Velma Schmidt, Brian Pezza, and me. St. Andrew's is entitled to elect two Synod delegates, and also will elect two Deanery delegates. At least one of the Deanery delegates must be a Synod delegate.
I encourage everyone to come to the Annual Meeting. One of the hard-won characteristics of the Episcopal Church, which sets it apart from some other denominations, is the full participation of the laity in the decision-making processes of the Church. At every level of ecclesiastical governance--congregations, dioceses, and the National Church--lay people are fully engaged in policy decisions.
This has been part of the heritage of North American Anglicanism going back to the period from 1579 (when the first Anglican church service in North America was conducted) to 1789 (when the first Anglican bishops arrived in the United States). When we attend and participate in our Annual Meeting, we honor that heritage, and build on it for future generations of the Church.
