Navigating Partnerships: From Connection to Collaboration Webinar Series - Now Available!

Navigating Successful Partnerships: Benefits and Strategies:

Addressing societal issues as big as hunger and nutrition are bigger than any one organization – partnership and collaboration are critical to meaningful change and improvement. This webinar provided a comprehensive overview of the advantages of partnerships, and the essential strategies required for establishing and maintaining successful collaborations.

Navigating Partnerships with Healthcare Organizations:

Partnerships between the health care sector and community-based organizations in the aging network have been identified as a strategy to improve population health, reduce health disparities, and use resources efficiently. This webinar began by reviewing some of the reasons why health care organizations have become more interested in partnering with organizations in the aging and nutrition sectors. It presents evidence on positive impacts that can arise from partnerships between the aging network and healthcare organizations. Finally, it reviewed strategies and tactics that organizations in the aging network have used effectively to develop partnerships with health care organizations over time.

Navigating Partnerships Between State Units on Aging and Universities:

Sarah and Alex discussed the history of their partnership, the benefits of universities and the aging network working together, and how other organizations should get started. Some of their notable projects include hosting the National Resource Center for Nutrition and Aging, publishing research on innovative congregate meal program designs, and streamlining nutrition education for older adults in Iowa. Participants learned how they could replicate this partnership in their state through shared values.

Navigating Partnerships Between State Government, Local Government, and Program Providers:

Learn about Wesley Life Meals on Wheels’ innovative approach to senior nutrition in Polk County, Iowa and the partnerships that have made their program successful. The presentation focused on how Wesley Life utilized multi-sector partnerships to support their new campus and Hydroponic Farm and expand their services to meet the needs of older adults in the community and transform the experience of aging.

Funding Program: Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program

From ACL:

Applications for the Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program are open

Applications due Monday, September 23, 2024

On July 24, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) made available nearly $1 billion to fund programs that ensure communities have access to devices and skills needed to fully participate in the digital world, regardless of their background or circumstances. This is the first funding opportunity from the Digital Equity Act’s $1.25 billion Competitive Grant Program and is part of the “Internet for All” initiative, a key component of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. The disability and aging networks play a pivotal role in helping people learn about and access affordable high-speed internet, as well as the tools and resources needed to be successful online.

ACL encourages the disability and aging networks to join with partners in your state and/or community to apply for this competitive grant opportunity. Under the Notice of Funding Opportunity, a variety of organizations can apply on a competitive basis for funding. Eligible applicants include political subdivisions of states, such as city and county governments; Native entities, including Indian tribes, Alaska Native entities, or Native Hawaiian organizations; certain nonprofits; community anchor institutions; local educational agencies; and workforce development organizations. United States Territories are eligible to apply for funding under a separate set-aside. Partnerships among these entities are allowed, and NTIA encourages proposals that demonstrate a broad partnership of entities with the ability to administer significant resources and address wide-ranging populations.

New research from Feeding America “estimates 1 in 11 seniors (age 60 and older) and 1 in 8 older adults (age 50 to 59) faced hunger in the United States in 2022.” These numbers are up from the previous year, and food insecurity can greatly impact the way we age.
