Greetings Community Members –

I hope each of you are preparing for a wonderful Thanksgiving break.

This fall semester has been very good in terms of student success. We surpassed 3,000 students during our 8wk2 session. In addition, our students had the highest course success rate (A, B, C’s in courses) since our college began in 2019.

We are fortunate to have focused, resilient students. When they are able to concentrate on the work, instead of outside-of-class barriers, they have proven time and again they can succeed. At LSC-Houston North, we are able to remove many of the barriers due to our foundation funds. For instance, through generous financial donations from community members and employees, our Professional Support Staff Association (PSSA) and Faculty Senate are continuing our tradition of buying toys for the children of our student parents. We have found that this eases the burden of our students that have to utilize limited funds to buy Christmas gifts and pay for their upcoming semester.

If you want to help us help students, please consider contributing to our Panther Pact fund. This fund supports efforts like our Toy Drive as well as services related to food and housing insecurity, technology assistance, and other basic needs.

Wakanda Forever with LSC-Houston North

On November 10th, we were able to have a full-circle moment.

In 2018, we held a contest asking students to choose our college mascot. They overwhelmingly chose β€œPanther”. We believe it is due to the success and popularity of the original Black Panther movie that had just been released at the time.

Therefore, when we heard Wakanda Forever, the second Black Panther movie, was coming out, we wanted to take the opportunity to reward our hardworking students. We held a private screening of the movie the day before it officially came out. All students and community members that attended enjoyed the event. Please see pictures from the private screening below.

In addition to our Toy Drive for students, we also have several upcoming events/activities for the community. Please see below.

Non-Profit Impact Program

We are preparing for our second annual Non-Profit Impact program.

ο»ΏThis initiative is a 6-week program that provides non-profits with trainings covering topics such as finance, laws & regulations, marketing, human resources, management, and fundraising.

Each organization within the program is paired with a mentor that has non-profit experience. At the end of the program, each non-profit is given the opportunity to β€œpitch” their business to a panel of representatives from various foundations.

We are still accepting applications, so if you have a non-profit or know of one that could benefit, please visit the link and apply. Want to know more? View video from our inaugural year.
